Family Business Pulse Q2 2026

Family Business Pulse Survey: June 2026

Introduction

Family Business UK (FBUK) is the largest independent body representing the UK’s five million private and family-owned businesses. They make up the bedrock of British enterprise, spanning every sector of the economy, from manufacturing and retail to agriculture and professional services.

Collectively, family businesses represent more than 90% of all private businesses employing almost 60% of the private sector workforce. They generate £985 billion in GVA, and contribute more than £400 billion in taxes every year. FBUK is delighted to launch the first edition of the ‘Family Business Pulse’, a quarterly sentiment survey tracking how the prevailing business climate is shaping confidence across the family business sector. This inaugural Pulse comes at a particularly challenging time. Geopolitical uncertainty, persistent inflationary pressures and concerns over potential interest rate rises are combining to test resilience. At the same time, family businesses are navigating a fundamentally changed landscape following 6 April 2026, with the removal of full Business Property Relief (BPR) and Agricultural Property Relief (APR) representing the most significant tax change affecting the sector in a generation.
