Family Business Pulse Survey: June 2026

Business sales Our survey showed that more than two thirds (68%) of family businesses trade internationally. Among those family businesses that do trade internationally nearly a third (31%) reported an increase in their international sales over the last quarter, while only 9% experienced a decline.

Business support The three key areas of business support identified to help family businesses grow are: support to invest in more sustainable technologies (28%); support to innovate and develop new products or services (27%); skills and training to support sustainable growth or exporting (25%). In addition, almost one in three (30%) medium or large sized family businesses said that advice or funding to help meet environmental or sustainability standards would support their growth.

In terms of domestic sales, half of family businesses (50%) say sales were higher than forecast. West Midlands based family businesses recorded the highest increase in sales with 56% of firms reporting increases (18%, increasing significantly and 36% increasing slightly).
