Davel’s leadership style is anchored in consistency, gratitude, and humility, values that have earned him deep respect in both corporate and academic circles. “I try to stay calm and always be there for the team, just as they are there for you. It’s important to keep sight of the bigger picture,” he says. Davel plans to step down as CFO after the 2025 reporting season, but he’s not stepping away from purpose. He’ll remain involved with DRDGOLD until January 2027 and is exploring a return to academia. “I’m considering further studies and becoming involved in the academic space again. It’s something that excites me.” HE REMEMBERS HIS UJ YEARS AS AMONG THE BEST IN HIS YOUTH. “I LOVED HOSTEL LIFE AND THE FOCUS OF THE HONOURS YEAR. THE LECTURERS WERE AMAZING. AUDITING WASN’T MY FAVOURITE SUBJECT, BUT I’LL NEVER FORGET THE ENTHUSIASM OF PROF BEN MARX. HE INSPIRED ME TO GIVE MY BEST.”
