The 20th edition of the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans Awards was announced on Friday, 28 June 2025. This year’s awards are particularly special as they mark the 20th anniversary of both the awards and the University of Johannesburg (UJ). Thirty-one (31) UJ alumni, current students, and staff are featured on the prestigious list, continuing the University’s strong showing in the awards since their inception in 2006. Prof Bettine van Vuuren, UJ’s Registrar, expressed her pride and delight at the University’s consistent recognition. ‘These 200 Young South Africans represent the very best of what our country has to offer, and we could not be prouder to see our alumni, staff, and students represented in this group of resilient and dynamic young people”. She added that their work contributes to solving societal problems, which aligns with the University’s vision of “Global Excellence and Stature 4.0 for Societal Impact”. UJ Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Letlhokwa Mpedi, also offered congratulations, noting that the University’s
