Two-Thirds Down, One-Third to Go LET’S FINISH THE YEAR STRONG

Wow! It’s already September. As we close out the summer and head into the last four months of the year, I always get a bit antsy. You see, I’m a very goal-oriented person, and I set annual goals based on the calendar year. When September hits, it dawns on me that two-thirds of the year is already over, and only one-third remains. That realization kicks me into gear. It’s time to get cracking. SETTING GOALS STILL MATTERS IN RETIREMENT. Retirement is a phase of life filled with freedom: limited schedules, fewer deadlines, and hardly any rules. When you’re working, you’re bound by structure and timelines. But in retirement, you could technically sleep all day or never get out of your pajamas, and no one would even notice.

the one outlining what you wanted to accomplish in 2025, and start working on it again. As of August 30, we’ve got four months left in the year. That’s still plenty of time to make real progress. Your list might include things like: • Cleaning out the garage • Getting a quote for that long-postponed home remodel

• Planning next spring’s vacation • Completing a Roth conversion

Whatever’s on your list, the deadline is approaching. Now’s the time to take action. DON’T HAVE A LIST? START ONE TODAY. I hope this message motivates you to check things off your list. But even if you don’t have a list, maybe this is the nudge you need to create one. I always set goals, and I almost always accomplish them, and often more, because I write them down. That simple habit makes a huge difference. And if you’re not sure where to begin, reach out to your wealth manager. They can help you brainstorm goals for the rest of 2025, and even into 2026. If you want, they can check in with you periodically to hold you accountable. Once you start this process, I think you’ll find it incredibly rewarding. You’ll get more done, feel more fulfilled, and enjoy the journey. So, good luck and enjoy the beautiful month of September!

And that’s the problem.

As human beings, we’re wired to achieve things. Without that sense of accomplishment, we feel deflated. Left unchecked, that feeling can spiral into depression. It becomes a downward cycle. I’ve always believed in this mantra: What gets measured gets done. That’s why I try to write everything down. For example, we used to host a summer party every year and invite over 200 people. I’d create a to-do list that was several pages long, packed with tasks I needed

to complete beforehand. The amazing thing was that nearly everything on that list would get done, and quickly. Why? Because it was measured. I had a plan, and I was tracking my progress.

WE SHOULD TALK ABOUT SEPTEMBER GOALS. Now that we’re in September, it’s time to revisit your goals. Pull out that list you made at the beginning of the year,

Kelly Campbell

After a long week of work, many Americans relax, participate in their hobbies, and try to avoid increased responsibilities during the weekend. While this can be beneficial for your mental health, have you ever felt like your week was off to a rough start as soon as Monday rolled around? There’s nothing wrong with relaxing on the weekend, but putting aside your responsibilities for a few days can put you behind the eight ball. Sunday Habits That Set You Up for the Week NO MORE MANIC MONDAYS

Retirement used to mean living off a pension, Social Security, and maybe some modest savings. But today, many retirees are looking for ways to keep their cash flow strong without having to clock in anywhere. That’s where passive income comes in. Passive income means money that rolls in regularly with minimal day- to-day effort. It adds stability, flexibility, and peace of mind to your retirement years. Let’s take a look at a few smart, realistic ways to build passive income in retirement. REAL ESTATE RENTALS (WITHOUT THE HASSLE) Owning a rental property can be a steady source of monthly income. But if dealing with tenants or leaky faucets isn’t your thing, consider hiring a property manager. You’ll still get the income without the stress. Alternatively, real estate investment trusts (REITs) offer exposure to real estate markets without owning physical property. DIVIDEND-PAYING STOCKS Dividend stocks are like a paycheck from your portfolio. You invest in companies that share their profits regularly, and over time, those dividends can add up. Many retirees use dividend income to supplement Social Security or cover monthly expenses. PEER-TO-PEER LENDING Through platforms like LendingClub or Prosper, you can lend money directly to individuals or small businesses and earn interest in return. While there’s risk involved, diversifying your investments can help spread that risk out. CREATE AND MONETIZE SOMETHING ONCE Do you have expertise in a certain area? Consider writing an e-book, creating an online course, or licensing your photography. With a little effort up front, these creative ventures can provide long-term income. ANNUITIES FOR PREDICTABLE PAYMENTS An annuity isn’t technically passive income, but it can feel like it. You make a lump-sum payment to an insurance company, and in return, they pay you a guaranteed monthly income. It's a great option for those who value security and structure. You don’t need to set aside your

Sunday to deep-clean the house from top to bottom, but adding beneficial habits

to the final day of the weekend can ensure every week starts on the right foot.

Declutter Decluttering and clearing your space will directly impact your mental state.

This can be an overwhelming task at times, especially if you have a house full of kids, but you can make it manageable by keeping up

with it every week. It might be easier once the kids go to bed, but take a few minutes every Sunday to walk through your house and pick up any items off the floor, on furniture, and anywhere else they may be lying. Plan Ahead Nothing will better prepare you for the week ahead than planning. Look through your work schedule and your kids’ calendars to make sure you’re aware of upcoming events, games, or practices. You could also consider meal prepping if the upcoming week looks busier than usual. To take it a step further, prepack your kids’ lunches, lay out clothes for the workweek, and write down additional responsibilities you’ll have throughout the week. Light Cleaning As stated earlier, you don’t need to deep-clean every week, but your home will look much better if you establish weekly light cleaning behaviors. Wipe down the surfaces in your kitchen, clean the windows, and give your floor some love by mopping, vacuuming, or sweeping. If you have the time and energy, consider doing a load of laundry or two. These little tasks will add up, making your house consistently sparkle.

MOVE OVER, PARIS Bordeaux Is France’s Best-Kept Secret

back over 2,000 years, and you can still experience the area’s love of wine today. Le Bar à Vin and Le Bistro du Fromager are beautifully decorated wine bars that will leave you stunned, unlike anything you can experience stateside. And if you want to take it up a notch, you can visit La Cité du Vin, Bordeaux’s interactive wine museum, and enjoy a glass under a chandelier made from a thousand bottles. Even if you’re not a wine drinker, there’s plenty to enjoy in Bordeaux. Those interested in fashion or shopping will love walking down Rue Sainte Catherine, Europe's longest pedestrianized shopping street. If that’s too crowded for your liking, you can enjoy shopping in the historic Chartrons district. As you walk through the city, you’ll surely see towers that look straight out of a fairytale or Disney movie.

If you’re visiting during the first Sunday of any month, you’ll get to hear the Grosse Cloche belfry ring its 250-year-old bell! For adventurers, just 37 miles southwest of Bordeaux is Dune du Pilat, Europe’s tallest sand dune, also famous for paragliding. Now, it wouldn’t be a visit to France without taking in some art, and Bordeaux won’t leave you disappointed. The Musée des Beaux-Arts and the contemporary art museum CAPC are both worth a visit, and your trip won’t be complete until you stop by the awe-inspiring Monument aux Girondins, a free-flowing fountain over a beautiful bronze sculpture. If a European vacation is on your bucket list, consider visiting Bordeaux when you go. It might just be the highlight of your entire trip!

When you hear about people taking trips to France, your mind likely conjures images of the Eiffel Tower, delicious high-end French cuisine, and a view of the “Mona Lisa” at the Louvre Museum. However, there’s much more to France than the scenic beauty and decadent flavors found along the streets of Paris. If you want to experience the best of France, you must spend time in Bordeaux. While we often refer to Napa Valley and Sonoma County in California as wine country, Bordeaux is the original wine region. Its history with wine dates

Aspen, Colorado Come September, the mountainsides come alive with beautiful golden aspen leaves, hence the name! Just be sure to bring layers — mountain weather can be moody!
