Our referrals continue to be one of the best ways clients find us, and we deeply appreciate it! for your trust and confidence. Thank you Through some combination of Disney magic and fan enthusiasm, May 4 has become known as Star Wars Day, hence the phrase “May the fourth be with you.” If you knowme, you might know I love Star Wars . It’s a love that goes back to my childhood, as it does for millions all around the world. I was around 10 or 11; my momwasn’t much into Star Wars (I had to drag her to the theater a time or two), but my aunt Kelly was a huge fan. She even had copies of the original posters hanging up in her classroom. I remember one night when I stayed over at her place, and in her spare bedroom was one of those old TVs with a built-in VCR. In a nearby box, I found a VHS copy of Star Wars , and I played it while I settled down to sleep. I didn’t get any sleep for the next two hours, because I was glued to the TV! Also, my aunt had (has) a huge crush on Harrison Ford, so it just makes sense that the classic Star Wars films are her favorites. Her crush is so big that when (spoiler alert!) Han Solo was killed in the new sequels, she was in complete denial. For me, it doesn’t get better than The Empire Strikes Back . It was the second Star Wars movie I saw (naturally), long before the prequels and the new batch of films. Empire was the movie that really got me hooked and cemented my love of Star Wars . The thing about Empire is that it really captured the profound emotional investment between the audience and the characters. Then, just as we become so deeply involved, we watch as the good guys take a beating. You anticipate Return of the Jedi , hoping everything is put right and the good guys finally win — and, of course, they do! On a broader note, Empire contains some of the great moments in cinema that have come to define StarWars in pop culture. You have the lightsaber duel between father and son, fantastic quotes (“No, I am your father”), intense space

chases and battle sequences, and the introduction of Yoda. What really makes the Star Wars movies stand out are the lessons. The greatest stories are those that teach

us something, and Star Wars is overflowing with those kinds of lessons. As kids, some of us dreamed of being Luke Skywalker. Some of us may have sided

with the guy in the flowing black cape. Movie after movie, there were enormous moments that won our hearts. Clearly, with millions of fans around the globe, these movies did something right. Star Wars taught me to realize that everyone has a unique perspective of the world. There is a scene in Return of the Jedi when Luke walks away fromYoda’s hut. At that moment, Luke runs into the Force ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi. There, Luke asks why Obi-Wan had told him that Darth Vader betrayed and murdered his father, when the truth was that Vader actually was Luke’s father. After explaining, the wise master says,“So, what I told you was true, from a certain point of view. Luke, you’re going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.” In other words, our individual perspective affects the way we interpret the world around us. No one else can see things as you do, and that’s okay. Obi-Wan wasn’t lying; the story just played out for him in a very different way. These days, this lesson is especially important in the charged climate we live in. It’s okay when people have different points of view. It’s part of what makes us who we are, and when we use our perspectives for good, we can shape the world around us for the better.

This month, turn on your favorite Star Wars movie, pop some popcorn, and let yourself get carried away to a galaxy far, far away.

May the Force be with you!

Set the diets aside and poke another notch or two in your belt, because May isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to sweet and savory holiday regrets. From National Hoagie Day and National Pizza Party Day to the holidays that really spell it out for you, like International No Diet Day and National Eat What You Want Day, we’re all looking forward to an excuse to let our stomachs hang low this month. For those of you who plan on partaking, let’s take a look at the best junk-food-related holidays this month and how to celebrate them! National Apple Pie Day Monday, May 13 Gather your friends and family around the table and dust off Grandma’s old recipes, because it’s time to treat yourself to the most American thing since, well, itself. National Apple Pie Day is a great opportunity to spend quality time with your loved

ones while baking the most traditional American dessert. Make the process a game by pairing off into teams for a bake-off; you can even pit the kids against the adults — with a little supervision of course. If you’re feeling a little lazy, throw an apple pie potluck and watch your store-bought delight steal the show as your audience praises your craftsmanship and attention to detail — just how Sara Lee taught you. National Hamburger Day Tuesday, May 28 As if one day wasn’t enough, it turns out that the entire month of May is recognized as National Hamburger Month! Meat lovers rejoice as patties of heavenly beef are passed around the table for all to enjoy. There’s no shortage of ways to celebrate this patriotic pastime. From grilling out with the neighbors to making sliders for your new love

interest, there’s a little something for everyone, especially considering the advances we’ve made in burger technology in recent years. If meat isn’t your thing, throw a veggie or tofu burger on the grill and season it to mouth-watering perfection. We won’t tell the beef purists if you don’t.

Eat up, everybody. Happy holidays.

Monthly Question and Answer Personal Injury — In the Know

Question: I’m mad. My car needs to be repaired. The other person caused the accident, and I can’t get his insurance company to fix my car. They aren’t being fair. What are my options? Answer: You don’t have to deal with the other driver’s insurance company to fix your car. If you have collision coverage, you might be better off dealing with your own insurance company. Your insurance is required

to deal with you fairly and in good faith. Your collision coverage is often the fastest way to get your car repaired. You can try to work with the other driver’s insurance company, but if it is unreasonable or unresponsive, use your own insurance. Unfortunately, you may find that the at-fault driver’s insurance company is trying to save money on your property damage claim — at your expense. Here’s the key point: If you use your insurance company for payment of property damage, you will have to pay your deductible, but your insurance company will go after the at-fault driver’s insurance company to recover what your company paid, along with your deductible. Your company will then reimburse you for the deductible you paid. An added benefit to you is you won’t have to deal with an adjuster or company that doesn’t care about you.

Our Clients Say It Best

Congratulations to our April Employee of theMonth:

Courtney Lutz

Courtney has been with the law firm for seven years and is the intake department manager. She assists employees and oversees the operations of the intake department on a daily basis. Her favorite thing about her job is the people she works with.

“They covered my disability case. I had been turned down two times prior, and it took me nearly three years. I hired FSTN and within six months, I was approved. Also, it didn’t cost nearly as much as I thought it would. They did a great job!” –David M. “I’m a 31-year-old male who served for five-plus years. I applied in 2015 for SSDI and got denied. I hired this firm in January, 2018. We had court on Jan. 8, 2019, and we won our hearing in less than 15 minutes! Now it’s time to wait for my benefits. Thank you guys so very much; you all are a big help and easy to work with. I would honestly refer them to anyone who asks!” —David H.

If Courtney could pick one superpower, it would be to

slow down time. One invention Courtney would like to see in her lifetime is a teleportation device. And if she was stuck on an island, the three things she would bring are her family, wine, and her phone. People who voted for Courtney said, “Courtney is an excellent manager. She is very dedicated to her employees, her job, and the firm. She is understanding and caring, and she always has a positive attitude.”

The Best Way to Stay Active in Retirement

Get Involved Think of the causes you’re passionate about and get involved! Animal shelters and soup kitchens are always looking for volunteer help. Book lovers of all ages can join their local Friends of Libraries chapter. To make a difference through politics, help with fundraisers or join an active campaign. If you want to stay closer to home, check out your local homeowners association. There are plenty of ways to engage with like-minded people while making a difference. Try Something New Don’t know where to start when looking for a group to join? Start online! Try searching “groups for retirees” and see what comes up. You might discover a travel group and start planning your trip to Asia. Or maybe you’ll have more fun mentoring young people in your professional field. Don’t be afraid to spend your retirement doing something new! There’s nothing wrong with enjoying your alone time, but don’t let your alone time turn into a lonely retirement. Joining a group can help you broaden your social circle, stay active, and maybe even learn something new about yourself.

While it’s great not having your nose to the grindstone nine-to-five, leaving work also means leaving behind a lot of daily activities and social interaction. Eventually, having nothing but free time goes from relaxing to isolating, and that can be dangerous to your physical and mental health. When planning for retirement, it’s important to plan ways to stay active and engaged. Joining a new organization or club can be a huge benefit. Here are a few suggestions to help you stay active in retirement. Enjoy Your Hobbies Did you spend years dreaming about hitting the golf course every day? While it can be nice to spend some time alone on the green, consider joining a golfers club if you want to mix things up. Enjoy scrapbooking? Check for get-togethers at the craft shop. If you’ve always wanted to try pottery, look for a class at the rec center. It’s easy to find groups dedicated to just about any activity.
