Y8 Bulletin 17.11.23

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

We have had another great week in Year 8. We have been focusing on Kindness this half term following on from our recent Head of Year assembly about the ‘need to be kind’ to one another. Each form has been tasked with creating a ‘Kindness Box’ and this is used weekly in a Monday form time in order to celebrate anonymously the examples of kindness within the form. I am pleased to say that Year 8 have been incredibly supportive of one another and I hope that this activity allows the forms to focus on the positive and uplifting moments of the week. We had a very successful non-uniform day today where our students dressed up in support of Children in Need. I was so pleased to be able to see how our Year 8s were in great spirits during this day and were enjoying the opportunity to raise awareness and money for a fantastic cause. We look forward to finding out how much the school has raised for this brilliant cause in next week’s bulletin. There is still time to donate if you wish to support us - click here to donate. Our top three epraise forms for this week are as follows: 1st 8EMU, 2nd 8EFR and 3rd 8SGZ. Well done to all of the hard work of each student who has contributed to this total. Well done to Florence P in 8FCO who marched with the Sea Cadets at the Lord Mayors show in London last Saturday. Her unit appeared on the BBC footage of the event! She also took part in the remembrance Sunday parade though Richmond. Next week we have an INSET day on Monday. Students are not expected to attend school, however those who are involved in the Annie production will need to come in for their dress rehearsal. As Mr. Goulbourne mentioned in the previous bulletin, I will be going on Maternity Leave at the end of next week. Year 8 will be looked after by the wonderful Mr. Sweeney, and I know he is very excited to get to know the year group and continue on the positive start that they have made.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Impossible Creatures - Katherine Rundell

If you enjoy Katherine Rundell’s The Wolf Wilder , then I highly recommend her newest book. A gripping fantasy novel, Rundell takes readers into the magical Archipelago, where mythical creatures exist but are under threat. Two children discover their hidden talents and their bravery is tested as they quest to save the source of the magic, on which all the creatures depend.
