Y9 Bulletin 17.11.23

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9

It has been a busy week for Year 9! On Monday we had the bake off, which was a great success. Ms Ahmed was so impressed with the students’ hard work and behaviour during the competition and the quality of the cakes was absolutely superb. All of the judges were completely blown away with the high standard shown and the competitors should be very proud of themselves. Congratulations to Imogen, Maya and Rosalie in 9FWD who came in first place. Second place was Holly, Ottilie and Ada in 9STH and third place, Maddie, Alanna and Olivia 9EPA. Today we had a non-uniform day to raise money for Children in Need. The theme was ‘spotty’ and it was nice to see our students embracing this and helping a good cause. We look forward to finding out how much the school has raised for this brilliant cause in next week’s bulletin. There is still time to donate if you wish to support us - click here to donate. Congratulations to our Year 9 Netball team who played against Turing House. They had an incredible win of 25 - 5. Congratulations to Matilda for being awarded player of the match. Well done to 9STH for coming first in epraise points this week. They are closely followed by 9PFO and then 9EPA in third place. Next week we have an INSET day on Monday. Students are not expected to attend school, however those who are involved in the Annie production will need to come in for their dress rehearsal.

Year 9 parents evening will be coming up on 7 December. This will be a chance for you to talk to your students’ subject teachers about how their school experience is going.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Once, Now, Then, After... - Morris Gleitzman

“Everybody deserves to have something good in their life at least once.”

The seven book series by Morris Gleitzman is a gripping read surrounding the story of a young Jewish boy during World War Two. He is determined to run away from his orphanage and save his parents from the Nazis. I loved this series because it is very emotional and intriguing. You grow to connect to the characters on a personal level and develop a deeper understanding of what people went through during the war.
