M .L .: I f you were parents o f teen-age children and all o f a sud den they started listening to rock ’n’ roll, what would you do? A .: Some mothers and dads, we are told, handle this headache by placing a blanket taboo on all o f this kind o f music, and from this practice they claim to get good results. Other people go at it d if ferently. T h e y p e r m i t their youngsters to listen privately in their rooms to this stuff. These parents testify that in time this permissive attitude gets the mu sic out o f their system and soon the kids tire o f it and drop this music like a hot potato. Obvious ly there is no one simple answer to this problem. Every home and child is different, and parents will need to seek the Lord ’s wisdom to determine which method is best fo r them. M .L .: A music teacher in school told some o f our church young folk that he admired the Beatles. A .: He did? M .L .: Yes. He said that while he had to admit that the stuff the Beatles sing may sound a bit on the noisy side, still we have to re member that at heart .these four British kids are clean and whole some, and what they sing is clean and wholesome, too. A .: Judging from this statement, those half-dozen men that the Beatles keep on their staff full time fo r public relation purposes are most assuredly earning their salaries. No, your teacher is wrong, terribly wrong. The Bea tles are not clean and they are not wholesome. The bulk o f Beatles music is vulgar and obscene. Downright filthy. This magazine has a good rule barring obscenity from its pages; otherwise we could prove this charge by simply quoting some o f their lyrics. M .L .: But don’t the Beatles live pretty decent lives? A .: Well, I’d hate to have my youngsters grow up and emulate their behavior. M .L .: I f this is true, why don’t our kids know it? (Continued on page 38)
