THE MAGIC OF THE SEA Čarolija mora

Jul July

On the wings of summer T he summer season is in now full swing, and our aircrafts’ passenger cabins are filled to the last seat. We connect Belgrade with more than 80 destinations on four continents and strive to offer every passenger a pleasant and warm experience. We believe that can be felt from the moment you board the plane and are welcomed aboard by a smiling crew that’s ready to make your flight even more enjoyable. Almost a century of operations makes us ambassa- dors of Serbia to the world. June saw us mark the 98 th anniversary of the founding of Aeroput – our original pre- decessor and the region’s first airline. On the wings of that tradition, Air Serbia continues to grow, relying on the va- lues that have shaped us. This latest issue of Elevate magazine is dedicated to Turkey. In addition to Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, we also – thanks to charter flights and cooperation with travel agencies – connect Belgrade and Niš with many popu- lar resorts during the summer. If you’re travelling to Tur- key, you’re sure to enjoy hospitality and the specialities of its rich cuisine. If, on the other hand, you are arriving in Serbia, don’t miss out on the opportunity to explore the country. Bel- grade shines with a special glimmer in summer, while na- tural gems like Fruška Gora, Uvac Gorge, Đavolja Varoš or Kopaonik offer the perfect respite from the baking con- crete. Discover hidden places and enjoy the authentic experiences our country has to offer.

Ako putujete u Tursku, uživajte u gostoprimstvu i specijalitetima bogate kuhinje. This year‘s research was conducted in the period between September 2024 and May 2025 and included travellers from more than a hundred countries, who rated the services of over 325 airlines around the world. The World Airline Awards are considered the most prestigious accolades in the airline industry, as they represent a unique global benchmark of excellence based solely on real passenger experiences and ratings. Those awards are the result of the largest and most comprehensive survey of passenger satisfaction and are therefore an indicator of the quality and reliability of airlines at the international level.

If you’re considering a holiday that allows you to combine beautiful beaches, rich cultu- ral heritage and unforgettable events, Izmir and the surroun- ding area represent the perfe- ct destination. Land directly in this picturesque Aegean coa- stal city and allow yourself to be enchanted by the aromas of spices and fresh seafood, the sounds of traditional mu- sic, and views of the endless blue sea... This city resembles any other modern Turkish metropolis at first glance. The country’s third largest city after Ankara and Istanbul, it has double the po- pulation of Belgrade. If you co- uld turn back the clock more than a century, you’d see weal- thy families strolling Izmir's fa- mous promenade, dressed in the latest Parisian fashions. Or

go all the way back to the le- gend of Alexander the Great, who was told in a dream, whi- le sleeping on the slopes of the nearby Mount Pagos, to build a city on that very spot. Beaches and natural beauty spots Your first adventure leads you to the beaches of nearby

towns, such as Çeşme, Alaçatı, and Urla. Çeşme, located just an hour’s drive from Izmir, is known for its turquoise waters and sand beaches. Its Ilica Be- ach, which extends over seve- ral kilometres, is a particular- ly attractive destination that’s perfect for family excursions, water sports and relaxing un- der the summer sun. In con-

trast to many of the region’s resorts, Çeşme has managed to retain its population and lo- cal flavour. It has a magnifi - cent castle that was built by the Genoese, but also fields of aniseed, sesame and articho- kes, interspersed with fig and olive trees. And while we’re mentioning sports and wind, Alaçatı is a must. This charming town is known as one of the wor- ld’s top centres of windsurfing and kitesurfing. Its windy bays and crystal-clear waters attra- ct competitors from all over the world. Use the opportunity to try these exciting sports for yourself, or simply enjoy watc- hing the professionals perform stunts on the waves. Windmi- lls are located on the hill abo- ve Alaçati, including some that have been converted into re- staurants. That’s because this picturesque town, with its sto- ne houses, quaint boutique ho- tels and numerous shops, is actually a foodie’s paradise. Urla, a small town located between Izmir and Çeşme that’s renowned for its vineyar- ds and olive groves, is there for all those seeking a quieter ho- liday. Enjoy tasting local wines, exploring the beautiful coun- tryside and meeting friendly lo- cals. Of course, olive oil tasting is a speciality here, but more on that later, and in much gre- ater detail. Cultural heritage With a history dating back 8,500 years, Izmir is certainly one of the oldest settlements in Turkey and has hosted va- rious civilisations throughout its history. You’ll enjoy eclectic edifices that show the tracks of this multicultural climate, and with that in mind you cer- tainly mustn’t miss the Keme- ralti Bazaar. That’s because the bazaar has always been, and remains, the beating heart of Izmir. Perhaps the best souve-

nir to take home is one of the glass beads against the cur- se of the “evil eye” that are ma- de in this very area. The “evil eye” will protect you from ot- hers, while it is also said to dri- ve away fears and troubles. With its rich Greek, Roman and Ottoman heritage, Izmir offers a number of interesting sites to explore. Head to the ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus, one of the world’s best-preser- ved ancient cities, located near Izmir. Stroll among the monu- mental buildings, visit the Gre- at Theatre and the Library of Celsus, and feel the magic of long-gone times. Visit Izmir ci- ty centre’s Kadifekale, an an- cient hilltop fortress that offers spectacular views over the ci- ty. Be sure to take a walk thro- ugh Konak Square, where the beautiful clock tower repre- sents a symbol of the city. The city itself doesn’t have a beach, but it does have the Kordon Promenade. Drop in at the museum dedicated to Ke- mal Atatürk, founder of the na- tion, then walk to the end of the promenade to visit the pier

that enters the sea (Konak Pier), which was designed in 1890 by Gustave Eiffel himself. What started life as a customs house is now a shopping cen- tre that boasts a fantastic re- staurant with views overloo- king the water. Gastronomic delights Izmir is a paradise for food lo- vers. Be sure to try specialities of Aegean cuisine like fresh seafood, olive oil and various appetisers. Try your hand at making the Turkish version of pizza or enjoy baklava and ot- her traditional desserts. Regu- lar visits to local restaurants, bars and cafes will enrich your experience not only thanks to their tastes, but also thanks to the warmth and hospitality of the locals. Summer happenings Summer in Izmir is made extra special thanks to the many events and festivals that ta- ke place during July and Au- gust. The Çeşme Windsurfing Festival, with its exciting races and spectacular performances,

attracts competitors and spe- ctators from all over the world. The old small town of Alaçati hosts the International Art and Wine Festival each August, which includes various exhibi- tions, concerts and tastings of local wines. This festival brin- gs together both artists and winemakers, providing visitors with the opportunity to enjoy the finest flavours and crea - tive works. July’s Izmir Inter- national Festival brings a ran- ge of cultural events, including operas, ballets, concerts and theatrical performances. This renowned event provides un- forgettable moments under the starry sky of Izmir summer nights, making it a genuine tre- at for art lovers. Cordiality and hospitality One of the greatest benefits of holidaying in and around Izmir is the friendliness and hospitality of the local popu- lation. You will be greeted wi- th smiling faces and warm welcomes at every turn. Whether you’re exploring the bustling streets of the city or the tranquil rural areas, you'll get the chance to experien- ce proper Turkish culture and tradition.

Letnji događaji Posebnu magiju letovanju u Izmiru donose brojni događa - ji i festivali koji se održava - ju tokom jula i avgusta. U gradiću Alača - ti tokom avgusta se održava Međunarodni festival umet - nosti i vina, koji nudi raznovr - sne izložbe, koncerte i degu - stacije lokalnih vina. We tested the best olive oil URLA

Urla is a strategic coastal town that has welcomed va- rious civilisations througho- ut its history and is worth vi- siting because nothing beats swimming in the deep blue sea and sunbathing on the fanta- stic beaches of this district. But Urla is also a regular desti- nation for gourmets. The town is famous for gra- pes and wine, and artichoke specialities, while it is also ho- me to the first olive oil atelier in Anatolia. Olives are an essen- tial ingredient in Turkish cuisi- ne, while Turkey has also be- come one of the world’s five largest producers of olive oil. This can be partly attributed to the Mediterranean climate and the fact that central Ana- tolia, Asia Minor, is said to ha- ve been the birthplace of the olive tree. And while we’re on the subje- ct of olives and oil, it is intere- sting to note that olive oil pro- duction in this region is mostly entrusted to women, but al- so that I witnessed the testing of this oil that appeared to be carried out in the same way that wines are tested, but also in a completely different way. The oil is poured into a glass and first heated with the palm of the hand, then covered with the palm of the other hand and smelled. We correctly guessed the smells, sensing the aro- mas picked up by the olives in different oils: tomato, mowed hay, artichoke etc. Next you ta- ke a sip, stick your tongue to the roof of your mouth and slurp until the oil scratches and burns at the base of your throat and causes your eyes to water. The more your eyes wa- ter, the better the oil and the

This is the fourth instalment in the latest series, which was launched in 2015, and the seventh film in the Jurassic Park franchise since Spielberg’s original

Ona nije tu slučaj- no već aktivno bira ovu misiju.

– Imala sam mnogo treninga to- kom godina – obuku u vojnom stilu, rukovanje oružjem, kaskaderske vrato- lomije, sve zahvaljujuć i dugogodišnjem učešću u velikim akcionim filmovima.

Pošto je svet „Jure“ postao toliko veliki tokom go- dina, nisam očekivala nešto ovako in- timno i svedeno.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON, ACTRESS I dreamt of becoming part of the Jurassic family

of a dream come true... “I’ve basically been following every Ju- rassic movement for the last 15 years. Every time I heard there might be a new one, I’d call my team and say, “I’m still available!” I grew up watching the orig- inal movies – I watched the first Juras- sic Park when I was ten or eleven—and it completely blew my mind. The visual effects were unlike anything we’d ever seen and the dinosaurs were extraordi- nary. It just felt so real. So, when I heard they were making another Jurassic, I had this feeling that maybe there was finally a role that could be right for me.” Did you personally call Spielberg? “I did! Spielberg has an office in New York and, even though I’d never been there, I knew he was coming through the city. I reached out and asked if he’d be open to meeting me and we ended up having this amazing meeting. We talked for hours. At some point, he stopped and said, “Wait, I think we’re supposed to be

However, it will be confronted by its big- gest rival – the revamped Superman – just nine days after its initial release. We nonetheless know someone who doesn’t have a dilemma over who to root for. Scarlett Johansson, the actress who initially achieved fame for her roles in dramas, but actually became a real action superhero thanks to Marvel, reveals that her role in the new film is nothing short

talking about Jurassic.” And I said, “Ste- ven, I would die in the first five minutes. I want to be in this film so badly.” I told him it was my childhood dream. From there, we just kind of dove into talking about the project, and I left that meeting hoping something might come of it.”

spiral fast. I’d describe it like this: they start out as people running toward dino- saurs… and they end up running away from them.” What’s new about this Jurassic film? What sets it apart? “The Jurassic universe has gotten so huge over the years—it evolved from that orig- inal park into something massive. But Rebirth really goes back to basics. It has that survival-thriller energy of the first film. You’ve got a group of people on an island, and they’re trapped. What do you do? How do you survive? It’s intimate in that way. It strips everything back to what made the original so gripping: the tension, the awe, and the real danger of being face to face with these creatures.” How did your previous action experience shape your prep for this? “I’ve had a lot of training over the years—military-style training, weap- ons training, stunt work—just from be- ing in big action movies for a long time. I never thought as a young actor that this would be part of the job, but it real- ly comes in handy. That made prep easi- er and allowed me to focus on the phys- icality and character work. I also learned how to abseil for this movie, which was new for me. I wouldn’t say I’m an expert, but I got comfortable with the gear. We rehearsed a lot of it in Thailand, which helped—especially since the actual stunts were happening in the jungle or in mangroves, often waist-deep in water.”

“People would say, “Oh, you’re going to Bangkok,” and I’d say, “No—it’s Ju- rassic. We’re in the middle of the jun- gle.” And the jungle is not exactly a forgiving environment. We were run- ning power through mangroves, haul- ing equipment up muddy banks, and camping out on remote islands. Every day brought some new challenge— swamps, sharp grasses at head height, wetsuits in waist-deep water. But it looked amazing on camera. You just can’t fake that. The textures, the light, the grit—it all reads. That’s why Frank Marshall insisted on real locations. It gives this film something very differ- ent from what we’ve seen in the fran- chise before.” What can you tell us about the dinosaurs in this film? “The dinosaurs are like nothing you’ve ever seen before. I’ve had so many people ask which ones we go up against, and I always say, “You’ll have to wait and see,” because I want it to be a surprise. They’re absolutely the ones of nightmares—in the best pos- sible way. The team pushed the bound- aries, not just in terms of how they look, but also how they move and how they react. There’s this eerie un- predictability to them. That tension builds the moment we land on the is- land – something feels off, and you don’t know what it is until it’s too late.” What surprised you the most about Jurassic World Rebirth? “I wasn’t expecting the film to feel so stripped back—in the best pos- sible way. It really does go back to the essence of the original. I don’t want to say “the basics”, but it has that survival thriller energy. Because the world has gotten so big over the years, I didn’t anticipate something this intimate and pared down. I read the whole thing with a big smile on my face. It was so well-plotted, im- aginative and beautifully written. At its core, Jurassic has to be fun. That lightness is a big part of what makes it work. There’s tension, yes—but it also has to have joy in it.”

What was your reaction when you read the script?

“The thing that struck me was how com- plex and compelling my character Zo- ra was. She’s not just along for the ride – she’s actively choosing this mission. She’s a fixer. A bit of a mercenary. She’s not just reacting to the adventure, she’s owning it. And that, for me, made her feel so dimen- sional and real.” What’s the core storyline? “It is about a group of people who come together for the purpose of collecting DNA samples—information and speci- mens. They’re part of this organised, pro- fessional operation. But, of course, they’re dealing with dinosaurs—and dinosaurs don’t exactly play by the rules. So, things If you’re also a fan of Spielberg’s dinosaurs, you’ll be able to see the new film in cinemas as of 2 nd July

Umetnost ulice / Art of the Streets

Radovi predstavljaju nov način umetničkog istraživanja These artists’ works represent a new artistic research method

T he exhibition Art of the Streets, featuring works by Danica Čudić, Aleksandar Bunčić, Dejan Ivanović Wuper, Stefan Stanojević Star and Jovan Obradović Shpira, will run at the Muse- um of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina until 3 rd August. The exhibition concept encompass- es the parallel presenting of a wealth of murals produced by selected artists in the context of their gallery works. Mu- rals were presented on screens, while oth- er artworks (including paintings, draw- ings, illustrations, sculptures etc.) were exhibited in a traditional way in mod- ern gallery conditions, thus providing broader insight into the artistic activ- ities of the authors, as well as (one of) the pictures of the contemporary artis- tic juncture. This exhibition will provide an op- portunity for the public to see and expe- rience works of the younger generation of domestic artists, who already have a major presence on the local scene, but also on the European art market. These artists’ works represent a new artistic research method that uses the medium of painting to reexamine the departure from the domain of the image, with an increased effect on the senses of the ob- server and the general manifestation of a new sensibility.
