DANICA ĆURČIĆ, ACTRESS We don’t see some sides of Danish culture too much Here the star of hit series Secrets We Keep reveals to us what happens when a perfect exterior starts to crack and the truth bubbles to the surface
A n elite Copenhagen suburb is where the a nanny from the Philippines goes missing, everyone tries to make it ap- pear as though nothing’s happen- ing. Everyone except one guilt-ridden woman who begins to unveil the lay- ers of lies, hypocrisy, and even racism. We reach the zombified children of those rich folks who mistreat women, murder, cover-ups and crimes that go unpunished. But the relatively positive female character in the series Secrets We Keep isn’t portrayed by Danica Ćurčić. rich live their best lives of privilege, and yet no one laughs. When She plays a serious villain, which you’ll have a hard time understand- ing – if only because Danica is our fa- vourite. I previously spoke to this out- standing actress, who’s long been
resident in Denmark, when the se- ries The Chestnut Man was also very popular on Netflix. Just like this new show, the previous one in which she starred was also binge material – you don’t sleep until it’s finished. That was a dark story in the style of Nor- dic noir in which Danica played a very difficult role, only to step straight in- to the shoes of a completely different woman. At the start of this interview focused on the current series Secrets We Keep, I ask her in jest what she has against comedies! “I would love to do comedies! And they are definitely harder than dra- mas (laughs).”
