COCKTAILS Cocktails form a key part of culture and fun, simply because they offer un- limited possibilities when it comes to combinations and flavours. From the classics to the contemporary, every cocktail has its own story, originali- ty and way to delight lovers of strong drinks. The martini, as the most fa- mous representative of the cocktail world, continues to represent a sym- bol of elegance and perfection in a glass. Jerry Thomas and prohibition Cocktails, as a form of beverage made by mixing alcohol and other ingredi- ents, have a long and interesting his- tory. The first records date back to the early 19 th century in the U.S., while one of the first known recipes was

First Recipe: The first cocktail reci- pe ever printed was for the “Old Fash- ioned” and dates back to 1806. Its in- gredients include alcohol, sugar and bitters. The most popular cocktail ever In a word – Martini! With its elegance and simplicity, the Martini became a symbol of sophistication and style. It appeared in the second half of the 19th century, while its origin is debat- ed. One of the first known versions is the “Martinez”, which appeared in the 1860s and contained gin, vermouth and maraschino liqueur, though it was gradually simplified to become the cocktail that we know today. A traditional Martini is made from gin and dry vermouth, and is garnished with an olive, though there are varia- tions with vodka, which is allowed but isn’t the original.
