OUR COMMITMENT TO COMPASSION AND CHARITY
DC United Junior Supporter Program Nurturing the Next Generation
As the holiday season approaches, our hearts are filled with warmth, and our spirits are lifted with the magic that this time of year brings. It’s a time for celebrating with loved ones, spreading joy, and reflecting on the blessings we have received throughout the year. We would like to extend our warmest holiday wishes to our valued clients and friends. Your support and partnership mean the world to us, and we are grateful for the trust you have placed in us. The holiday season is not only a time for celebration but also for giving. It reminds us of the importance of coming together as a community to help those in need. At Malloy Law Offices, we hold the values of compassion and charitable giving close to our hearts, and we are proud to support two organizations that are dear to us. Identity Empowering Youth for a Brighter Future One of the organizations we support is Identity, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering Latino youth and other historically underserved youth in Montgomery County. Identity has been tirelessly working since 1998 to support the growth and development of thousands of young people living in high‑poverty areas. Identity’s impact on the community is nothing short of remarkable. Through their programs, they have helped young people develop crucial life skills, such as conflict resolution, self-advocacy, and a strong connection to their education. These skills empower them to navigate the challenges they face and build a brighter future for themselves. Identity provides a safe haven for youth to thrive, where they can speak for themselves and connect with the resources they need to succeed. The positive changes that this organization fosters in these young lives are truly remarkable!
In addition to our support for Identity, we are also proud to back the DC United Junior Supporter Program. This initiative offers a unique opportunity for poet-athletes in the DC SCORES program and their families to enjoy DC United Soccer matches throughout the season. DC SCORES is an organization that empowers underserved children to excel on the soccer field, in the classroom, and in life. By creating neighborhood teams, they give children the confidence and skills they need to succeed in various aspects of life. We are passionate about helping kids thrive and succeed, and the DC United Junior Supporter Program allows us to do just that. By providing these young athletes and their families with the opportunity to enjoy DC United matches, we hope to inspire their passion for sports and encourage them to pursue their dreams. We are honored to be a part of a community that shares our values and commitment to helping those in need. It is through your support and partnership that we can continue to make a positive impact in our community and beyond. If you are interested in either of these organizations and would like to find out more about how you can help, visit Identity-Youth.org or DCUnited.com/community/junior-supporter . As we gather with loved ones, exchange gifts, and savor the joy of the season, let us also take a moment to reflect on the true spirit of the holidays. It’s a time to come together, support one another, and spread kindness and compassion. From our family to you and yours, happy holidays and happy new year!

Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft have revolutionized the way we travel, offering convenience and accessibility. While these services have made transportation more efficient, accidents can still happen. If you find yourself involved or injured in a rideshare accident, it’s essential to know what steps to take to ensure your safety and well- being and protect your rights. Prioritize safety. Your safety and that of other passengers in the vehicle are paramount. Check yourself and others for injuries, and if anyone is hurt, call 911 immediately to request medical assistance. Move to a safe location. If it’s safe to do so, move away from the accident scene to a secure location, such as a sidewalk or parking lot. This will help prevent further harm caused by hazards or traffic. Contact the police. If the Uber or Lyft driver hasn’t already, call the local police to report the accident. Make sure an official report is filed, as this can serve as valuable documentation for insurance claims or legal proceedings. Gather information. Just like a typical car accident, it’s important to gather information from all parties involved, including the rideshare driver, other Accidents Happen STEPS TO TAKE AFTER A RIDESHARE ACCIDENT OCCURS
DIY GINGERBREAD ORNAMENTS ADD SWEET MEMORIES TO YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE
This year, many friends and families will set up their Christmas trees and work together to decorate them with their favorite ornaments. Some ornaments even have their own special meaning or associated memory that sends the entire group down memory lane. While this holiday nostalgia is wonderful, the problem is that many of these ornaments are old, from when kids were little, a married couple just started dating, or a group of friends first met.
People rarely add new decorations to the tree and create new memories to look back on in the coming years. But you and your loved ones can change that this year by making your own DIY cardboard gingerbread ornaments together!
All you need for this ornament is brown cardboard (from any box lying around), a white gel pen or marker, and string.
To make your “gingerbread,” you first draw out the shape of your ornament(s) in pencil on a piece of cardboard before cutting it out. Then, use your white marker or pen to add “frosting” designs. We recommend adding some of those traditional gingerbread frosting loops around the edges before going in and adding details.
Lastly, punch a small hole (you can just poke the pen tip through) on top of the cardboard on the ornament, feed the string through, and tie a knot at the top to make a loop. You can put the loop over a branch on your tree, and it will look like a freshly baked cookie is hanging there! If you want to make the ornament even more meaningful, have your kids, friends, or other family
members make themselves (or you!) as cardboard gingerbread people! They can add their hair, outfits, or anything else to their ginger-person design. Having everyone’s ginger selves hanging on the tree together will always remind you of the time you spent with them to create these decorations. The best part is they’ll never go bad, and you can reuse them every year!

One day in 2017, Pearl came home and saw that something seemed amiss. Joey was excited, and the doors he’d left closed were now open. After finding scratches on the lock of his gun safe, Pearl knew there’d been a robbery and
called the police.
Officer Ashley Turner couldn’t help but notice Joey’s presence in the house but didn’t believe he was connected with the case — at first. A few hours later, Turner returned to Pearl’s house with his missing belongings and a story to tell. She’d partially identified the perpetrator by the suspicious scratches on his hands.
During questioning, Turner said the burglar confessed to the home invasion and explained why he’d left sooner than intended: Joey attacked while he was attempting to break into the gun safe. Unsurprisingly, the rodent’s violence was frightening. “He wasn’t expecting to have, you know, a squirrel come flying out of nowhere at him,” Officer Turner said. The thief reported that leaving was the only way to stop Joey’s aggression. After learning of his bravery, Pearl rewarded Joey with his favorite candy, Whoppers. But he then had a difficult choice ahead. When Joey was still a tiny baby, Pearl and his wife had taken in the abandoned squirrel. They had intended to release Joey back into the wild when spring came, but they were no longer sure. Ultimately, they let Joey decide. After he started playing with other squirrels through the home’s sliding glass door, the Pearls installed a cat door so he could come and go as he pleased. Joey spent several weeks outdoors with other squirrels by day and returned to the Pearls by night. Eventually, he requested one final scratch behind the ears before disappearing into an apple tree and leaving the Pearls’ house behind forever.
Ingredients • 1/2 cup butter • 1 cup chopped onion • 1 cup sliced celery • 2 cups sliced carrots • 1/2 cup flour • 1 tsp salt • 1/2 tsp pepper • 1/2 tsp celery seed • 1 tsp garlic powder • 1 cup milk • 2 cups chicken stock • 2 cups peas • 4 cups cooked chicken • 1 package frozen puff pastry, thawed • 1 egg
Directions 1. Heat oven to 425 F. 2. In 12-inch cast-iron skillet over medium heat, melt butter, then add onion, celery, and carrots. Sauté for 5 minutes. 3. Add flour, salt, pepper, celery seed, and garlic powder to pan and stir. Sauté for 2 minutes. Slowly incorporate milk.
4. Add stock and bring to a
simmer, whisking until mixture thickens. Add peas and chicken.
5. Roll out pastry sheet into 16- inch square on floured surface. Cut into 3-inch squares and place overlapping onto chicken mixture. 6. In a small bowl, whisk egg with 1 tbsp water. Brush egg over pastry and place in oven for 25 minutes or until golden and bubbling.
Though Joey returned to the great outdoors to live with his kind, his legend is a warning to humans. When you break into someone’s home, you never know what you might find.
