Annual Election Results

Dear Members,

Hole in One!

Acting in my capacity as secretary of the corporation, SOCC Inc. I oversaw the counting of the ballots for the 2020 election. I was assisted with the count by Peter Warmerdam. This report is to provide the Membership with the official results of the election. As per the SOCC bylaws, we used procedures to confirm that only equity members were allowed to vote. The total number of equity members eligible to vote was 457. This means that 229 votes are required to achieve a quorum. A total of 281 votes were cast.

Under Proposal A, the following individuals received the highest number of votes and were elected to the Board:

Scott Howry Mike Burton Jay Ericsson

Julie Ko Lakes #3 February 27, 2020

Proposal B; the bylaw amendments are not approved as we did not receive a ¾ affirmative vote as required by the bylaws. 235 Yes votes and 34 no votes.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Brehmer Secretary, SOCC Inc.

“The days go by slowly and the years fly by”… I’ve heard this saying many times throughout my life, but I think you have to be a certain age to fully understand it. It’s easy to see that it will be a busy year for our team! We do all these things to give you, our members, more reasons to spend time at and enjoy your club. With our nice spring weather arriving, it’s a great time to come after work and enjoy everything from golf, tennis, pickleball and swimming, to live music and great food. I hope 2020 is a wonderful year for each of you and that myself and the Seven Oaks Team have many opportunities to serve you this year.

See you at the Club!

From the Golf Shop

by Joe Haggerty, Director of Golf

Grip Pressure

Remember that the grip is your connection to the golf club. All good players have a consistent grip that they check each and every shot. When checking the grip, it shouldn't be in your palms but along your callus line in the fingers with your “V’S” pointing to your chin.

At address, you can start with a relaxed grip with both hands having equal pressure at set up. If you measure the intensity of your grip on a scale of 1 to 10, it should be 5 or 6 at address and throughout your golf swing. “No white knuckles” You are preparing to strike a golf ball at high speed and it’s the back of your left hand controlling the club face. The last thing you need to do is to hold the club so lightly that the club head slips or twists at impact when you hit the golf ball. The main though is to hold it to where you have a grip with “feel”. Although the rear hand - I call 'the trigger' - creates power, that doesn’t mean hold tighter. The pressure in the thumb and forefinger is surprising light. You have equal pressure with both hands and never want either hand to overpower throughout the swing. I have seen Fred Couples hit a golf shot and his left hand was coming off the club in his follow through. As long as you have a good, firm hold of the club with both hands, the club head can strike the ball squarely at impact. A reminder to become consistent, you must check your grip on Every Shot !!!

At the Courts

by Dave Krueger, Tennis Director

Adult Tennis

Cardio Tennis Mondays 6:30 - 7:30pm. $15 per class.

Junior Tennis

Cardio Tennis is a fun, sociable heart pumping fitness class on a tennis court, open to everyone, and no Tennis experience is needed! You can burn up to 700 per class with dynamic stretching, hitting lots of tennis balls and engaging in other cardio activity to energetic, motivating music! Call Jonni at 714-366-2985 to sign up. This is the best way to get in to tennis. If you don’t have a racquet or you feel your racquet is outdated, don’t worry, we have plenty of Demo racquets you can try out. Liveball Wednesdays 6:30 – 8pm & Thursdays 8 - 9:30am. $15 per person. This program is a fast moving, very intensive hitting and drilling course. The emphasis is on playing points and hitting ‘zillions’ of balls. Must have a USTA rating 3.5 and above. For Wednesdays call Jason at 661-717-4217 and Jonni at 714-366-2985 for Thursdays. Beginner Tennis Drills Wednesdays 9 – 10:30am.

Red Ball Future Stars Thursdays 4-5pm, ages 5-8 . This Quick start program uses fun games and drills to help develop good ball tracking skills.

Orange Ball Tuesday & Thursday 4-5:30pm, ages 7-10.

Players ready to play on a slightly larger court. The classes are designed to continue building athletic skills while learning or refining the skills necessary to serve, rally and score.

Green Ball Tuesday and Thursday 4-5:30pm, ages 7-10. Green ball is designed for beginner to

intermediate level players. We coach using a rally-based curriculum and focuses on scoring, serving and serve return with sound footwork. Yellow Ball Tuesday and Thursday 4-5:30pm, ages 11-18. On court drills will include point play, dead ball drills, fitness drills and mental toughness skills.

TENNIS TIP: ALWAYS PLAY WITH A RACQUET THAT FITS YOUR SKILL LEVEL. A BEGINNER WILL MOST LIKELY NEED SOMETHING THAT’S LIGHT, HAS A BIG HEAD SIZE AND A HIGHER STIFFNESS RATING. BEGINNERS ARE STRUGGLING WITH FORM, CONSISTENCY AND OVERALL KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME, SO A RACQUET THAT CAN ELIMINATE ANY OF THE COMPLICATIONS WILL MAKE THE GAME EASIER TO LEARN.

Fitness News

by Nikki Billiard, Fitness Director

St. Patty’s

TRX CLASSES ARE HERE! We are offering 5 TRX classes in the Exercise Studio at Tennis, throughout the week. They will vary from beginner to the more advanced TRX blast classes. What is TRX? The TRX System, also knownas Total Resistance exercises, refers to a specialized form of training that utilizes equipment developed by former U.S. Navy SEAL Randy Hetrick. TRX is a form of suspension training that uses body weight exercises to develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously. It requires the use of the TRX Suspension Trainer, a performance training tool that leverages gravity and the user’s body weight to complete the exercises. • Beginner TRX classes will go through foundational movements at a slower pace to get a better feel for how to use the TRX. Wednesdays 8:20 – 9:20am Saturdays & Sundays 10:00 – 10:45am • TRX Tone uses a little more advanced movements with slow timed intervals. Wednesdays 6:15 – 7:00am • TRX Blast is constructed like a 30 minute HIIT class. This class will also use timed intervals, but with shorter rest periods. Tuesdays 6:00 – 6:30pm Every class can be modified to accommodate individual fitness capabilities. Please talk with your instructor before class regarding modifications.
