Greyton Mountain Marathon 2025: A Coming Together of Running, Community and Education
Sponsored by a member of the Greyton Trail Society, Elrich described the route as “one of the toughest yet” but said that the support of friends and locals helped carry him through. He hopes to inspire other young runners from the community to pursue their dreams through trail running. Huge thanks go to the parents of Greyton House, Toad Hall, OK Greyton, Agrisell, Vigne Pharmacy, Spirits of Greyton, Josh Ramsey, Greyton Conservation Society and Greyton MTB for their generous support. Their contributions helped make this year’s event such a triumph. Next up: the Brew Run on 23 August. A fun family race with 6km, 13km and 21km options. Tickets will be available soon via the Greyton Trail Society website and Entry Ninja.
A record 27 runners braved the 42km route through the Greyton Nature Reserve, climbing over 1600m, passing through Genadendal and back into the village, before merging with the 21km race along the Bakenskop MTB trail. Greyton House alumnus Jono Goodale made history by winning our first ever single day 42km marathon. “It felt a little like cheating,” he laughed. “I know these trails so well.” Reflecting on his upbringing in Greyton, Jono shared heartfelt words about the freedom, connection and formative experiences he had at Greyton House. “Being able to contribute to a child’s education at Greyton House, even in a small way, is deeply meaningful,” he said. The 21km race was clinched by 19-year-old Elrich Davids, a rising local talent who recently claimed victories in Franschhoek and Cape Town.

W e proved again this year that the Greyton Mountain Marathon and our other trail events are more than just races. They are a testament to what’s possible when we work together, and how much people value contributing to the greater cause of education. This year saw a surge in first-time participants, many of whom shared glowing praise for Greyton’s charm, its welcoming community, superb accommodation and fantastic local restaurants. Our school was a frequent talking point, with visitors impressed by the ethos and energy of Greyton House. The event has laid strong foundations for future growth, benefitting both our bursary programme and the town itself.
