Unified Community Connections provides residential services, adult day programs, employment assistance, a No Boundaries Assistive Technology Center, academic programs for ages 2 to 21 at the Delrey School, transportation and in-home support. The variety of services are personalized to meet the specific needs of individuals, helping them live independently and build connections to their communities. “Unified provides thousands of hours of services and support each year to both children and adults with a wide variety of disabilities and chronic health issues throughout the state of Maryland,” said Diane Coughlin, president and CEO of Unified Community Connections. One of the agency’s core services is the Adult Day Program. Unified operates four Day Programs, in Cumberland, Hagerstown, Frederick and Baltimore, for people with disabilities ages 21 and older to attend and enjoy group activities. The programs focus on

developing social, interpersonal and vocational skills. “In 2011 St. John Properties helped us find a new home for our Baltimore program at the Greenleigh at Crossroads location in Middle River,” Coughlin said. “This move allowed us to consolidate our (at the time) two Baltimore Day Program centers into one conveniently located, state-of-the-art space. Combining our two programs allowed for more efficiency of care and staffing and the opportunity to offer more services to address our individuals’ unique needs. With the help of St. John Properties, we are now able to provide safe, modern and efficient Adult Day Program services to more than 100 individuals with disabilities.” The Greenleigh at Crossroads location is conveniently located in an amenity-rich, growing suburban area and includes a conference room, activity rooms, sensory stimulation room, computer lab and library, office space for staff and an outdoor pavilion, among other amenities.

Abundant parking is crucial for lift- equipped buses and vans. “St. John Properties met with us numerous times to understand our mission so that the space would lend itself to supporting the men and women with disabilities who attend our Day Program,” Coughlin said. “They were very helpful in understanding that people who use wheelchairs need wider halls and doorways and that the bathrooms needed to be designed with wheelchair users in mind. St. John Properties also helped us by allowing for plenty of natural light in our space, giving the program areas a bright and open appearance. They listened to us and made us partners in [the] design of the interior of the building.” St. John Properties and Unified Community Connections make a strong team in providing opportunities to people with disabilities who want to enjoy positive and enriching activities in a safe environment.
