St Paul's Girls School - Head of Estates

• In agreement with the Director of Operations, manage the budget for works including authorising contract payments as necessary. • Review and tender service contracts as required • Respond to emergencies, including out of hours, as required. Health and safety and compliance • Contribute to planning for site security, advising on the use of CCTV cameras, access control to buildings etc. • Ensure that the school complies with all health and safety legislation as it relates to buildings and premises including but not limited to asbestos management, PAT testing, COSHH and legionella regulations, delegating as appropriate. • Ensure that health and safety processes are in place within the maintenance, grounds and caretaking teams including appropriate training and risk management. • Facilitate external health and safety reviews of areas that fall under the Head of Estate’s remit and ensure that recommendations are acted upon as required. • Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations as they relate to buildings and premises, contributing to the development of policy and procedure, facilitate the annual fire risk assessment visit, and in consultation with the Director of Operations, respond to actions required under the school’s external fire risk assessment. • Work with the Director of Operations to ensure that the site meets all requirements under the Independent Schools Standards Regulations (2014) and ensure preparedness for inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. • Arrange periodic fire marshal training for school staff and contribute to fire awareness induction for new staff. • Act as a member of the School’s Health and Safety Committee, providing expertise on estate management and processes. Leadership • Provide leadership to the team and bring innovation in terms of best practice and estates management • Create a service driven team that are embedded into the whole school culture. • Line manage the site team, conducting appraisals and addressing performance management issues as necessary; recruit and train staff as required.
