Get Your Home Ready for Summer, One Step at a Time
The weather will continue to warm over the next few weeks until we summer officially begins. Whenever the seasons change, we should tackle basic maintenance in and outside the house to ensure everything continues to work properly and our homes look as beautiful as possible. Start by walking around the exterior of your property to look for signs of damage or wear and tear. Look at the ground and work your way up. Check your patio, sidewalk, walkway, and driveway for cracks and weeds. If you notice weeds, remove them before filling in the cracks they grow out of. Then, give the area a good power wash, spraying away the dirt and grime accumulated over the last year or longer. From there, you’ll want to look at the actual house itself. How do your gutters and downspouts look? If they’re dirty and full of debris, throw on a pair of gloves and get to cleaning! This is not a fun task, but it goes a long way toward protecting your
home from water damage, pest infestations, and more. While you’re up there, inspect your roof for any damage. If you haven’t experienced a bad storm recently, it should look okay, but it’s definitely worth checking out. Before heading inside, consider cleaning your outdoor furniture, air conditioning unit, windows, and screens. For your air conditioning unit, simply spray it down with a hose and remove any weeds that may try to grow in it. Also, consider calling an air conditioner maintenance company to take a look at your unit to ensure it runs as efficiently as possible as the temperature heats up. Once you head inside, you won’t have too many summer-specific tasks to complete, but you should tackle a few with every seasonal change. Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, wipe down your baseboards, and reverse your ceiling fans so they’re spinning counter-clockwise. Just like that, your home is now ready for summer!
