VISIT A PARK. “America’s Finest City” is filled with beautiful and historic public parks, each offering unique vibes and amenities. From scenic views to great playgrounds for the kids, there’s a park for everybody in your family. Balboa Park is a must-see location that could take a whole day to explore. You’ll find scenic walking trails, art venues, gardens, over 16 museums, and more recreational attractions — and the park is free to explore. If you’re more interested in parks with water views and access, check out Mission Bay Park, Waterfront Park, or Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. TRAVEL TO BIG BEAR. Big Bear Lake is just about three hours away from San Diego and offers a variety of free or inexpensive activities. The lake itself is quite a draw and perfect for a lakeside picnic or hike down one of its many trails. It is also a top-rated spot for fishing. It’s free to fish from shore, and you can rent a fishing boat there for less than $100. Animal lovers can also visit the Big Bear Alpine Zoo and Baldwin Lake Stables and Petting Zoo. If you make this an overnight trip, you’ll find ample lodging. SPEND THE DAY IN THE GASLAMP QUARTER. The Gaslamp Quarter is a historic entertainment district in downtown San Diego. This bustling area includes landmark architecture, shops, galleries, bars, restaurants, theaters, and a robust variety of conventions and special events. INGREDIENTS

2 lbs shrimp, peeled and deveined

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 bell peppers, sliced

Tortillas

1 onion, sliced 3 tbsp olive oil

Topping Options •

2 tsp chili powder

Sliced avocado

2 tsp cumin

Salsa

1 tsp smoked paprika 1 tsp garlic powder

Sour cream

Chopped cilantro

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 400 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 2. In a small bowl, combine chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. 3. Place bell pepper and onion on the baking sheet. 4. Drizzle evenly with 2 tbsp of olive oil and sprinkle with the chili powder mixture; reserve some for shrimp. Bake for 12 minutes. 5. Remove sheet pan from oven and push veggies to one side. Add shrimp to the empty side. Drizzle with 1 tbsp olive oil and spices. Return sheet pan to oven and bake for another 6 minutes, until shrimp are pink. 6. Serve on warm tortillas with desired toppings.
