MAN MEETS MACHINE
BOTS AND BUSINESS: MY JOURNEY INTO THE AI FRONTIER
For most of my life, I typically haven’t been the first person to embrace change.
it to discuss the book’s main points. The app can’t perform the complex tasks involved in running my business, but I can use the insights it helps me pull from books to make decisions. I also use it sometimes to generate images. I was planning a new jersey design for my basketball teams at Flint’s Finest, the nonprofit I run, and I asked ChatGPT to spit out some ideas for me to consider. I didn’t use any of the images, but the tool spurred me to try something new. So, in that sense, it has been very helpful. These AI tools make errors, of course. Users have to be very careful about what they’re asking and how they apply the output. Also, only humans can do certain kinds of thinking. ChatGPT sometimes gives suggestions you can’t use because they’re generated by a model, not by a unique human mind looking for new ways to think about things. The scary thing about AI is that as people use it, people become more efficient, so fewer employees are needed. When I went to Taco Bell recently and drove up to give my order, I was shocked to hear an AI voice come over the speaker. A person soon joined the conversation to help, but once Taco Bell gets those AI tools working smoothly, they won’t need that employee anymore. All they will need is someone managing the bot. As we consider new ways to use these tools, it’s important to remember the potential consequences. The better these tools become, the fewer people will be needed on the job, and I think we have to be very, very careful about that. But using ChatGPT has been an adventure for me so far. The main benefit has been that I am becoming more efficient, and I enjoy that feeling!
But amid a flood of new technology, I have learned in the last year or two that you can either embrace new tech tools late or embrace them early. If you wait, you become the last person to jump on board and have a longer, steeper learning curve than others. As a result, I have decided to become an early adopter. I look at new AI tools when they come out, and if I see potential uses, I try them out. In recognition of World Social Media Day on June 30, this is a good time to reflect on how AI is changing my life. My main AI tool is a paid version of ChatGPT, which gives me access to more powerful models and advanced features than the free version. I use it for many tasks: It helps me research, prepare for meetings, and distill key insights from books. Sometimes, it helps me plan my schedule for the day, asking what I want to accomplish and making suggestions for organizing my time. I might even toss out a request, telling ChatGPT I need to prepare for a conversation I’m going to have or a presentation I’m going to make, and ask for ideas. The tool also helps me write. I might have a conversation with it while I’m driving, and it saves my thoughts in a document that I can download later and edit. I also use it to review letters I’ve drafted for spelling or grammar errors. ChatGPT can also play the role of a study coach. I might tell it, “I’m studying for my board exam. Can you ask me questions, and I’ll answer them?” The app can also do research on the internet, and I sometimes ask it to find websites for me to review.

Gisele’s Habits for Staying Fit and Fabulous What’s Her Secret?
You couldn’t escape seeing Gisele Bündchen during the late 1990s and early 2000s. She appeared in countless advertisements showcasing lingerie, perfume, and more. She was also regularly featured in magazines, even named “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” by Rolling Stone in 2000. Her fame only grew as time went on. Although the supermodel is not in the limelight as much as she was 10 or 20 years ago, she’s considered one of the greatest models of all time and still gets her moments in the spotlight whenever she wants. If you’ve seen recent photos of Gisele, you may wonder how she’s stayed in such great shape. She doesn’t look much different from when she was in her prime modeling days. So, how does she do it? Here are three of her habits you can easily adapt to your lifestyle. EAT A MOSTLY PLANT-BASED DIET. In her cookbook, “Nourish,” Gisele claims that 80% of her diet is plant-based. She used to be vegan but developed anemia, which required her to add red
meat back into her diet. Gisele tries to keep raw vegetables prepped and ready to eat. Fruit is also a staple of her diet, but she no longer does juice cleanses. Instead, she’s been trying out different types of fruit smoothies! AVOID CERTAIN FOODS AND DRINKS. Gisele is no stranger to the occasional treat like french fries or gelato, but some things are entirely off-limits. She avoids eating ultra-processed foods, and you’ll likely never see her inside a fast-food restaurant. Gisele has also cut out alcohol and coffee from her diet in recent years, replacing coffee with caffeine-free dandelion tea. STAY ACTIVE. Exercise is essential to any health journey, and Gisele ensures it’s part of her routine. She continually tries new physical activities in addition to weightlifting and cardio. She enjoys paddleboarding, biking, surfing, horseback riding, and bouncing on trampolines. She also practices yoga to deal with stress.

CANCER COMEBACK BOUNCE BACK STRONGER THROUGH PHYSICAL THERAPY
Coming back from cancer can be a long road, especially for the many patients who deal with the discouraging after-effects of the disease and its treatments. In recognition of June as Cancer Survivors Month, this is a good time to consider how physical therapy can help patients recover. Physical therapy has many benefits for survivors of cancer of the breast, ovaries, prostate, and bladder. Through a personalized exercise and therapy program, a skilled physical therapist can help reduce swelling and fatigue, improve balance and mobility, and recover strength and the ability to participate in everyday activities. Lymphedema is a common side effect of breast cancer. Surgery and chemotherapy can disrupt the functioning of the lymph system, causing swelling in the arms, legs, and other parts of the body. A physical therapist can improve circulation through massage, wrapping, and exercise, helping you begin moving flexibly and comfortably again. Cancer of the prostate, bladder, or ovaries can lead to weakness in the pelvic floor, which in turn harms a person’s ability to maintain normal urinary or sexual functioning. Physical therapists trained in pelvic floor therapy can work with you to rehabilitate your pelvic floor muscles and regain those functions.
General fatigue, exhaustion, and
weakness associated with cancer surgery, chemotherapy, or
radiation treatment can be taxing. We work with patients on a customized treatment plan to rebuild strength, endurance, and mobility and to reduce breathlessness.
We also can assist our patients in spotting early signs of cancer. While this disease is enormously complex and has multiple causes, obesity and a sedentary lifestyle are among the triggers. A planned, customized exercise program can help you improve your odds of remaining cancer-free.
Call us today for an assessment. We will be happy to work with you to recover from cancer treatment and chart a healthier path ahead!

A Streamlined Focus on Family Flow
SMART SCHEDULING FOR BETTER HEALTH Family Flexibility
Fulfilling life’s many demands should never come at the expense of your family’s health. If your household’s daily grind consists of juggling multiple schedules and commitments with little room for relaxation, you’re not alone. Here are two ideas to help your family slow things down and better ensure everyone’s physical and mental well-being stays positive as the hours fly by. A SCHEDULE OVERHAUL When work commitments, paying bills, coordinating transportation for your children’s extracurricular activities, and other daily obligations lead to hurried and scattered interactions among family members, the American Heart Association recommends creating a new way forward. First, look closely at everyone’s daily schedules over a week to see where gaps may exist and which activities could be scaled back to allow for more time spent together. You can start by choosing two
30-minute slots during the week and two hour- long slots on weekends to get everyone in one place. The goal is to have distraction-free time with your loved ones, so put away your computers and cell phones during these special moments. STRESS-SMART STRATEGIES Naturally, hectic schedules often lead to stress — not just for adults. In addition to providing children with all-important personal time with their parents and siblings, regular family activities can help parents better determine whether their kids feel undue pressure in any area of their lives. Although positive stress can help a young person rise to challenges — for example, studying for a big
test or meeting the deadline for an important assignment — too much stress can hinder a child’s coping skills and lead to anxiety and depression or physical symptoms such as headaches and stomach pains. Setting consistent daily routines — the same bedtime each night, for example, or regularly scheduling family time everyone looks forward to — will go a long way in helping them feel more in control of their days and encourage better communication with other family members.
Life is more than checking off items on our schedules. Any family
can create a system that helps everyone feel happier and
healthier in even the busiest times with only minor adjustments.
