Letter from the Director

Dear Friends and Colleagues: We believe that everyone, from the kindergartner entering the classroom to the Ph.D. student performing research in a lab, should have the ability to learn in a green school. Green schools reduce the environmental impact of buildings and grounds, have a positive effect on student and teacher health, increase environmental literacy among students and graduates, and have even been shown to increase test scores. Our collective goal is to transform all schools into healthy learning environments. There are over 1.37 million NJ students in our public schools. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, people spend 90 percent of their time indoors, where pollutant levels can be from 2-100 times higher than outdoors.
