Director's Note

T his unforgettable line from the baseball movie Field of Dreams, with Kevin Costner from 1989 is again coming to reality in Sheboygan. Right around the same time that this movie was released, retired CRD- Director, Mr. Steven Stauber was working with the proud sponsors Mel and Loretta Hummitzsch to build the north side baseball “Field of Dreams” complex and Jerry Hummitzsch field. Thirty years later, 2019, the Sheboygan Area School District Facilities Services Department, Community Rec. Dept. and the Hummitzsch family have again teamed up to add a new scoreboard, replace the infield with Astroturf and re- pitch/sod the outfield on Hummitzsch field. This great addition for the baseball community and fans will be celebrated on April 2nd when North and South Varsity teams will play the first game on the new turf. An “open house” is planned with the Mayor, School Board President and Superintendent throwing out the inaugural pitch(s). You are all invited to unveil this exciting baseball change. And please don’t forget to come and enjoy all of the other amazing the programs and activities included in this Community Recreation Department summer Be-Active catalog. Enjoy! “If you build it, they will come.”

Get active. Stay active. Be active . Being active is a state of mind, a desire to participate and contribute. That’s what we strive to do every day at the Community Recreation Department: provide opportunities for our community to Be Active .The Be Active catalog currently contains all the great activities you expect from us. In future issues, Be Active wants to also tell the stories of how Sheboygan gets involved and has fun. And we need your help! If you participate in an activity, tell us about it. If you love working with an instructor, give them a glowing review. If you capture a great moment in a photo, send it to us. You can send your stories and photos to jdixon@sasd.net and you might be featured in a future catalog. Let’s celebrate being active together!
