Hava Zilbershtein: My creations are characterized in unpredicted integration of materials and compositions. By etching, I explore lines, stains, shape and color, which are the language of painting. The subject is less emphasized. By that, I create a battle between stain and form, between the thickness of the line and its reference to the stain, between powerful elements and those which are minor, between free soft curvy lines and those which are sharp and pointy. The etching techniques allows me to create a self- intriguing layers of textures.Partially erasing a plate and re-engraving it creates layers and depth in the print. The nature and surroundings provide the images. On the one hand they restrict me (proportions for The Studio: The studio – the artists’ house in Tel-Aviv. It is where fascinating, surprising and exciting processes are created. The zinc and aluminum plates are engraved, scratched and etched,
example), but on the other hand I disassemble, delete and combine them as I desire. I create a sort of demolition and liberation, while contrasting cutting and tearing. Thus I create a new context and meaning, while abstracting and keeping the hallmarks of nature. My work often includes references to the reality by figurative elements, yet still conveys the sense of abstract. In my work, I deliver the viewers my personal take on nature and the surroundings. I try to dramatize the most simple and “beautiful” things (flowers, birds), debate and doubt the “beauty” concept, and provoke the viewer to realize that nature is not obvious and not conceived the same by everyone.
control and being controlled, painted and pressed against the paper. The revealing of a new work is the moment to which I am addicted for so many years.

Hava: It is so true. You managed so well to describe the work and my emotions while creating. Basically, it is my emotions. I studied in “Hamidrasha – the faculty of arts” in the seventies. I learned the “abstract” which has become a part of me. I take the figurative, puts it out of context and integrate it in a dynamic abstract environment. Of course, I look for the tension in the work through the language of art.
It seems that there is an intermediate space that takes your attention while creating your art. A space between the real world and your inner world. Between figurative and abstract, between chaos and scatter to organization and order. Can you try to describe what leads you in the process of choosing of the etching, arranging the plates side by side etc.?
