A NOTE FROM SYLVIA Fall is in the air (although as I write this it is still very much summer)! September is back-to-school month and ushers in a nostalgia for smells and textures: crayons, No. 2 pencils, tempura paints, chalk ...at least for my generation. Growing up on a farm, I also remember bailing hay (and hayrides) and watching my mother preserve every vegetable and fruit to tide us over during the winter. The air smells earthy, and as an adult living in the city, I visit nearby apple orchards, and continue mom’s tradition of canning apple butter and jelly. We are excited about a lot of new programming this fall that will inspire all lifelong students who turn to TPT to satisfy their endless curiosity. "Ken Burns: One Nation, Many Stories" takes viewers on a journey through the latest documentary films from "America's Storyteller." The special features highlights from his recent works, including "Country Music," "Muhammad Ali," "Benjamin Franklin," "The U.S. and the Holocaust," "The American Buffalo," "The Vietnam War," and more. Tune in on September 5 at 7 pm on TPT 2. On September 15 at 8 pm, we are airing "American Masters: Julia Alvarez," which explores the life of the Dominican American poet and novelist who has blazed a trail for a generation of Latino authors. This new documentary offers an intimate look at her journey from an idyllic, privileged childhood in the Dominican Republic to a life of exile in New York City and a brilliant literary career that continues to flourish today. We will also premiere the latest season of "Relish" on September 23 at 8 pm for our broadcast viewers. Hosted by the acclaimed Chef Yia Vang, this series, which premiered on the PBS App in May, features local chefs and food makers who take Chef Vang and viewers on a culinary journey exploring the globe right in our own backyard. Then, on September 24 at 7 pm, "Frontline" debuts "The Choice 2024," a special feature offered each presidential election cycle, providing in- depth analysis and insight into the candidates and their campaigns as we head into the November election.
