CIVIL AND STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING showers, toilets and the two pools. Tetra Tech also devised the stormwater strategy (including SUDs) to deal with rainfall and to avoid flooding on the site. L eading provider of consulting and engineering services, Tetra Tech provided civil and structural

engineering services at Templemore Baths. The company assisted the architectural team in delivering the renovation of the original building and designing the new steel frame structure and reinforced concrete elements for the extension and pool in the leisure centre. The structural engineering work also included a thorough investigation of the original building to evaluate the condition of the concrete, brickwork, steel and cast iron roof trusses to see if anything needed to be repaired or rebuilt. The team at Tetra Tech even tested the structure around one of the original pools to see how much the flooring built in Victorian times could withstand. The good news for divers is that the perimeter can take up to 500kg per square meter. Civil engineering services comprised designing the all-important wastewater system that drags all the water away from

“There were some surprises beneath the surface, and we had to come up with solutions promptly to overcome them within budget and the deadline,” commented Associate Director John McConville. “However, there was great coordination among the teams, especially with architects McAdam Design and the Consarc Design Group.” “We are very happy to bring the old building back to life and build a place that people can actually use. The Bangor firm worked closely with main contractor Heron Bros to make sure that, its Victorian counterpart, the new building will also stand the test of time. Commenting on the completed project, Metloc Systems Director Maurice Brown said, “Templemore Baths is such a prestigious job, and we were delighted to work with Heron Bros again.” Metloc Systems Ltd is the largest manufacturer of non-welded masonry support systems in Ireland and the UK. “Our patented bracket technology can provide solutions for the most demanding of design applications,” Maurice explained. “It offers maximum flexibility and value without compromising on quality.”
