EVAN ROLLEY FROM HERIOTS POINT

“Heriots Point is excited to be participating in the 2023 Spring in the Vines as a wonderful chance to showcase our recently released “Sleeping Beauty Sparkling”, made entirely with our estate grown 28-year-old Pinot grapes and on the weekend we’re also diving into our cellars to share tastings of the highly regarded 2004 and 2009 Heriots Point Pinot,” says Evan Rolley. Southwood Wines, a collaborative venture of six friends, is another newcomer to this year’s event. This year is also the first where they harvested from their own vineyard in Kellevie. “We set up Southwood Wines in 2020 with six partners (Tracy, Ivan, Ian, Craig, Paul, Henry and Michael), all of us sharing links to Tasmania and especially a love of Tasmanian Pinots,” says Tracy Taylor. “We really wanted to learn as much as we could about growing grapes, while not spending an unlimited amount of money and most importantly, produce wine we were proud of and wanted to drink! “We’ve certainly worked hard, with great working bees with family, friends and extremely supportive locals helping with advice, planting, weeding, slashing, spraying, pruning and collecting snails! While we impatiently await our first pick from our Kellevie vines next year, we’ve been practicing by picking grapes at vineyards in Coal River Valley and Meadowbank, had fun creating our logo and brand and got to know our fabulous wine maker and him to get used to us! We’ve even won gold, silver and bronze medals at recent wine shows… something we aspired to and are thrilled about. “We are constantly appreciative of the collaborative nature of Tasmanian wine growers, makers and stockists and have been made to feel very welcome in the Tasmanian wine industry. We are really excited about participating in Spring in the Vines for the first time where will be unveiling our first ever Reserve Pinot Noir… we hope to have lots of tasters visit us at Bangor over the weekend!” For Coal Valley winery Pressing Matters, the timing of Spring in the Vines has coincided with their cellar door opening. “Timed perfectly for the arrival of spring, Pressing Matters proudly announces its new Tasting Room in the Coal River Valley,” says Sales and Operations manager Stephanie Fausz. “Expect a contemporary space filled with daylight and views of old pinot vines and the valley, while exploring brand-new releases, exclusive cellar door-only selections, as well as a curated array of exceptional museum wines if your heart desires. For added convenience, small plates and barista coffee is also available. Pressing Matters is open from 11am to 5pm during the Spring in the Vines Weekend.”
