Understanding Beam Lighting

PIR Sensors The PIR sensors (proximity infra-red) are triggered when it senses movement within its detection area, turning the light on. The light will then turn off again after a fixed time period when no further motion is detected.

Light Spill Light Spill is when light falls outside the illuminated object. With most external lighting schemes, typically car parks or sports pitches, there can be some spill of light. For internal lighting, the spill is usually redirected back into the target area by reflectance’s from the Wall, roof, etc.

Photometrics The science of photometry works to contain light by specifying the intensity and the quality of light radiation, perfecting new techniques to control it. Our expert lighting designer produces detailed lighting layouts to help control your costs and increase your energy efficiency. Utilising CAD programmes such as Relux and DAILux, when working on a residential, commercial or industrial project installations.

Dusk to Dawn The primary purpose of outdoor lighting is to illuminate poorly visible areas at night. Such as isolated communal areas,

poorly lit streets and underground walkways. Residential security where the main purpose is to enhance visibility at night, acting as theft deterrents. Dusk to dawn sensors automatically control your home’s exterior lights. Photocell technology is used as an intelligent power source, identifying when dusk has fallen, this in turn prompts the lighting to turn on. Similarly, the lighting will also detect natural light and turn off in the morning.

Detection Ranges The maximum working height that the sensor can be mounted, determines the sensors detection range as a circumference area on the floor.

Efficiency LEDs in general consume very low amounts of power. There are two key terms luminous efficacy or useful lumens. These essentially describe the amount of light emitted per unit of power (watts) consumed by the bulb. In our experience most LED lighting installations result in improved energy efficiency, this in turn brings cost savings to an installation or project.
