BREAKING THE SPIN CYCLE OFF THE TEE Over the years, Shipley has fought too much spin with the driver. He’s now using a Ping G440 LST, customised to 6.8 degrees. (His swing adds about 2 degrees of loft at impact.) He also has Ping’s prototype mini driver, as a fairway finder.

FACE FACTS Shipley naturally sets up 2 or 3 degrees right on putts, then rotates the face through. That didn’t work with large mallets, so he putts with this custom Ping PLD Anser 4D blade.

SALTY, NOT SWEET In addition to the popular hydration mixes, he carries packets of salt. When he mixes salt in his water, he can stay hydrated without the added flavours and sugar.

HOLY ROLLERS Shipley started playing the 2023 Titleist Pro V1 just before his career took off, and he has stuck with it. Next to the number he often draws a cross, a nod to his faith.

CLEANER FUEL Working with a nutritionist, Shipley discovered he has food sensitivities. He over- hauled his eating on and off the course with a gluten- free, low-inflammation diet.
