This Thanksgiving season, we all have a lot to be thankful for. I write inmy planner every daywhat I am thankful for that day. It is usually very generic. Something like... my kids or golf yesterday or the weather. When I sat down to write this, I was flooded with what I am actually thankful for. kid. The conversations that we have just blow me away. He is applying to colleges and making tons of grown up decisions. We have been visiting colleges and the way he takes things in and processes the information is so fun to watch. He is maturing right before my eyes. I cannot wait to seewhere he goes andwhat he doeswith his life. Thankful. The two little ones, Foster and Brinkley, are busy as always. They have had to adjust, just like every other student, to the newCOVIDschool protocols. It has been really tough. Especially with math. I don’t know about you, but I cannot teach new math. I can’t do new math. I cannot understand new math. I think new math is stupid. That may be harsh, but it is the truth. I amthankful that they have resumed full time at school. I am very thankful for my bride, Hope, the glue. She keeps our house running. She does somany little things that I don’t know about or even think about. She is the bestmom. Even if the kids think that she is a little over the top. Without her, I don’t know where I would be! I am thankful for all of the staff that have chosen to work here at Pittman PT. It has been a difficult year for everyone, but they have remained a rock. Everyone has chipped in, done more, taken cuts, been understanding all while maintaining focus on taking care of every patient that has chosen to walk through our doors. I couldn’t ask for a better staff. Last but not least, I am thankful for YOU!! Thank you for trusting us to help you to get back to life, to live amore fulfilling life, to live amore pain-free life. For trusting us with your friends and family members.Wedonot take this responsibility lightly! Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and this awesome community! Jeremy

My brother was deployed toAfghanistan. Hewas there for a year. When hewas supposed to come home, he couldn’t. It wasn’t safe. He was stuck there for 3 more months. I would talk with him and hear bombs going off in the background. He made it home. He is safe. I am thankful for that!! My other brother has been struggling with addiction for a long time. When I say a long time, I mean since he was 16. He is 50 now. He finally came to the realization that he needed help. He admitted himself to rehab and after a hard road, he is back home. He is doing much better. This has been very hard for him and his family. It isn’t something that I talk about, but I amtruly thankful for the fact that hewants to get better. I am really proud of him. We all realize that it is going to be a struggle, but keep him in your prayers. He has 5 kids at home that are so excited to have daddy back!! Mymomhas finally quit smoking!!! She has been smoking for 50 years. She didn’t really want to quit, but when the heart doctor gives you the ultimatum, you don’t really have a choice. Either way, she quit. She is having another procedure as I write this to fix an aneurysm. I am grateful that the doctors found this before it was too late. My daughter, Sophie, is starting to get really busy. As I write this, she is on set filming her firstmovie. We are so excited. She has worked so hard for a long time anddoesn’t give up. She has had to learn to deal with rejection and is growing up. Thankful. My oldest son, Stone, is a senior. I don’t even know where to start with this amazing young man. He amazes me every day. He is the smartest

Physical Therapy: HELP FOR CURRENT INJURIES AND PREVENTING THEIR REOCCURRENCE

Do you have pesky pain you’re trying to kick? We understand that many people simply don’t have the time to keep coming back to physical therapy. Maybe you’re in school, you have a full-time job, you’re chasing after young children or grandchildren, or you’re a committed athlete who simply can’t be out of the game for that long. We get it – you’re busy! When you come in for an injury or pain relief, you want your physical therapy treatments to be a “one and done” deal. At Pittman Physical Therapy, we want the same for you! Give us a call today to hear more about our injury prevention services, and how we can make sure your treatment with us will nip your pain in the bud once and for all. How Can I Prevent an Injury? Pittman Physical Therapy offers injury prevention screening to help determine your likelihood of experiencing an injury in the near future. Your body tells you in subtle ways what it can and cannot do – and we’re here to listen. How do

we do this? First and foremost, we will analyze how your body bends, twists, and moves altogether. This can include watching how you squat and jump, testing your flexibility, and noting your range of motion. During an injury prevention screening, we are on the lookout for abnormalities, whether it be in wobbly landing positions, weak limbs, low range of motion, or overall issues with posture and technique. We will also take note of any painful areas and focus closely on those to get to the root of the problem. After your initial screening, your physical therapist will come up with a plan to help significantly lower your risk of future injury. This may include manual therapy, technique and form assistance, therapeutic exercise, or any of our additional services that your physical therapist sees fit. They may also send you home with some helpful tips and exercises that you can do on your own to help prevent your risk of future injury.

Common Tips for PREVENTING INJURIES

Incarnation Food Pantry FOOD DRIVE • Strengthening your back (and other commonly used body parts.) Did you know that back pain is themost globally reported source of pain? Our backs do a lot of work throughout the day, and it is a long and tender part of everyone’s body. You can strengthen your back, stomach, and thighs by doing simple exercises, such as partial crunches and wall sits. These are all highly used parts of our body and strengthening them will both make it easier • Exercising your toes. Toes may be a part of the body that you don’t think about a whole lot but working out your toes can actually have a lot of positive effects. By simply doing daily toe scrunching exercises, you can strengthen your arches and prevent painful conditions, such as plantar fasciitis. • Stretching your calves. This is something that you should do before and after every workout. When your calves become tight, the tissues of your fascia can pull and tear, causing injury. Stretching your calves can prevent muscles fromstiffening, thus decreasing any painful risks. • Massaging your feet. If you think about it, our feet get quite the workout every single day – they literally hold us up! This can inevitably cause discomfort, especially if we are on our feet more than planned, or we complete a new, extensive workout that we are not used to. A simple remedy is to massage the soles of your feet with a tennis ball. If you are experiencing pain, you can also massage them with a frozen water bottle, which can relieve swelling.

It’s Leaf Raking Time!

Now with more tools to help you recover quickly! WEBSITE??

It’s that time of year and all your fellow leaf rakers are out in full force cleaning up their yards and getting ready for…uggh winter. Here are the Top 6 Things you should keep in mind as you tackle that yard: 1. Warm up – Get your body moving with a brisk walk or some trunk rotations before you start raking. 2. Avoid twisting – move your feet and use your legs to shift your weight back and forth rather than twisting through your back. Keep your shoulders and your hips facing the same direction, bend at the hips and not your back, and you can’t go wrong! 3. Get the right rake – Use a rake that is a good length for you. A rake to long or too short will make you put more stress on your back. 4. Switch it up – Don’t always rake from the same side. Changing your arm and leg position will help decrease the repeated stress on your joints. 5. Use your legs – Bend at the knees when picking up piles of leaves and yard bags (that aren’t too full!) to decrease the load on your low back. 6. Finish up – It’s always a good idea to finish with some stretching, or even ice areas that you know tend to get sore, after a workout. Then go and enjoy a cold (or warm!) beverage of your choice after a job well done! Remember, if you are extremely sore after an activity or minor aches in pains aren’t settling after a few days, call Pittman Physical Therapy and let us help you get back to pain-free living.
