¡nitely be an incorruptible body. Everything on earth decays. The trees which may have survived the centuries will at last wither and fall. Steel will rust and disappear. Man himself, who can blast rocks, cut down forests and erect the sky scrapers, is the least durable of all. The seeds of death are within us at birth so that we begin to perish at the womb. Corruption gradually sets in until finally the shaking hand, the trembling knee, and the dimming eye are laid in the grave. Our new bodies through re demption are going to be raised incorruptible. Weariness and sick ness will be unknown. Jesus, after His resurrection, had a tangible body. He was not a ghost but could be seen and heard. Death has no more dominion over Him. This is why we shall be like Him (Philip- pians 3:21). Perhaps our bodies will shine with the incandescence of that light which was revealed in Christ when He appeared transfig ured to His disciples. Strangely enough man has never had a body commensurate with his intelligence or even its powers. The ant which crawls on the ground can carry a far heavier load than a man can in proportion to his size. So it is with many of God's creation. Of man's body it can truly be said, "It is sown in weakness and cannot of itself command the elements of the field." Scripture assures us, how ever, that it will be raised in power (I Corinthians 14:43). The resurrec tion of Jesus Christ showed that new power was revealed in Him. He entered the room with the doors being shut (John 20:26). The Bible is not specific about the exact quality of our resurrection bodies. We know too little about the ulti

mate constitution of matter, how ever, to make a final affirmation of its nature. Suffice it to say that God has promised this body of our hu miliation shall be conformed to the body of His Son's own glory. We will also have a spiritual body (I Corinthians 15:44). This does not refer to that which is ethereal, in tangible or ghostly. It will be a medium capable of expressing our final aspirations and qualities. There are experiences in the Christian life which cannot be reduced to words or even to gestures. What vocabu lary could ever be sufficient to ex press the rapture of the soul when it is redeemed from the bondage of sin? What songs are sweet enough to sing the true praises of Jesus Christ? By what facial expression can we perfectly mirror the love of God? At best our bodies are now still imperfect tools. How glorious to realize our blessed state when Jesus comes again for His church, dramatically transforming our bod ies of weakness into that of His own existence. What child has not found great delight looking through a catalog of merchandise and imagining the joy and opportunity of buying ev erything and anything desired. For the child of God, the Bible provides the reality of seeing dreams and ambitions for the future come true. What a rich and full experience to go through Scripture from cover- to-cover finding out God's thoughts and seeing His blueprint of the ages. The Apostle Paul had a deep- seated desire to be like Jesus Christ. All of his goals and aspirations were focalized in the second coming of our Lord. He will change this body of humiliation and weakness fash- Page 37
