Ethiopia The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia covers an area of 1.14 million square kilometres with a population of approximately 103,000,000 people spread over nine national regional states. The country has two layers of administration, the federal state and the self-governing regional states. The Ethiopian legal system is a blend of civil law and common law, but the civil law legal system is more widely used. Federal judicial authority is vested in federal courts, a three tiered system based on their competence as provided for by law. The Federal Supreme Court is the highest federal judicial court ahead of the Federal High Courts and the Federal First Instance Courts.
