Ghana Ghana is the 46th largest country in the world by population, with 28 million people across 10 regions. The country is run by a central government, which acts as its only legislative authority. There are two distinct systems of law in Ghana: common law, derived from its British colonial past, and customary law, derived from indigenous traditional norms, customs and practices. Customary law is generally relevant in matters concerning land tenure, law of succession and family law. Unlike many other African countries, Ghana was able to maintain the role of its chieftaincy system as a functioning regulatory body of the Republic. It now operates within the constitutional governance structure and helps public departments achieve their goals by collaborating on public projects.
