Stay Informed With Our Health Insurance Expert, Chris Besonen Expert Advice on Health Insurance Needs
Hello! I’m Chris Besonen, and I’m excited to share a bit about myself and what I do here at Financial Architects, where I specialize in Health Insurance and Medicare. I joined FAI in 2013, but my journey in the insurance field kicked off in 2008. Since then, I’ve navigated through the complexities of Medicare, individual medical plans, and the nuances of the Affordable Care Act with a focus on small-group and employer plans. 2024 has been quite a year with several shifts in the health insurance landscape. One significant change we’re addressing is the redetermination of Medicaid eligibility post-COVID-19. Many families who had Medicaid during the pandemic are now facing eligibility reassessments, which has led to a substantial number of people needing new coverage. At FAI, we’ve been actively assisting these clients to find the right Marketplace plans that ensure they can continue seeing their preferred doctors without interruption.
solutions to their specific healthcare needs and financial situations.
Employers also recognize the importance of offering competitive health benefits to attract and retain top talent. Thanks to my broad network and the flexibility of working with multiple insurance providers, I can design customized benefits that align with employer goals and employee needs. The best part of my job? It’s definitely the feedback from the people I help. There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing the relief in someone’s voice when they realize their health care will be manageable and affordable. That makes all the hard work worth it, and it’s why my clients often become lifelong connections, frequently referring their friends and family to me. When I’m not deep in the world of insurance, I’m fully immersed in family life with my three- year-old son, Justin, who has completely reshaped my priorities. We love spending time outdoors, whether it’s fishing, hunting, or just playing around in the local park. These

Whether you’re looking for the right plan, adjusting to new healthcare laws, or just understanding your current benefits, I’m here to help guide you through. Navigating health insurance can be tricky, but you don’t have to do it alone. Let’s work together to ensure you and your family are protected and prepared for whatever lies ahead. I look forward to hearing from you soon and helping you find peace of mind with your healthcare decisions.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Inflation Reduction Act is set to introduce a significant
update by capping out-of-pocket expenses for Part D (prescription drug plans) at $2,000 annually per beneficiary. While this change promises relief for many, it could also increase plan costs. My role involves analyzing these changes to find the most cost-effective options for our clients, tailoring

We are aware that water drinkers consume fewer calories than nonwater drinkers, and the link between consuming sweetened beverages and obesity attests to this. Beverage brands may boast the supposedly remarkable attributes of their energy drink and mineral water brands, but none can beat the benefits of water — and there’s research to prove it. Water is necessary to keep our bodies functioning, and drinking enough is essential to live healthily and reach our full fitness potential. However, a new development shows that it is possible to unlock even more of water’s potential — by drinking it hot! The Wondrous Properties of Hot Water REVIVED AND REVITALIZED

lose weight. If you want to lose weight, try drinking some hot water before your meal. Studies also show that drinking hot water 30–40 minutes before you eat can increase your metabolism by 40%, compared to just 30% from drinking room-temperature water! Additionally, researchers recommend drinking 2 liters of water, heated to at least 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, to kickstart your energy expenditure throughout the day. CLEANSE YOUR SYSTEM One of the first side effects of drinking hot water is increased body temperature, which can lead to sweating and natural detoxification. Additionally, drinking hot water aids in preventing constipation, bloating, and hemorrhoids and helps break down food faster than cold water. If you want to lose weight or partake in some natural detoxification, it may be time to incorporate some hot water into your diet. It may be a hot take, but science suggests that ditching soft drinks for some heated H2O will benefit your health!

HOW DID YOU GET CONNECTED TO FINANCIAL ARCHITECTS? Kevin and Sue Deacon have been connected to Financial Architects for as many years as Patrick Marody has been connected to Financial Architects. They first met Patrick when he was finishing his degree at UM-Dearborn. Sue and Lisa (Pat’s wife, then his girlfriend) worked as a creative team in the advertising business. As Patrick began his professional career, the Deacons entrusted him to help them plan for the future of their young family. For the last 30 years, Pat and the FAI team have carefully managed their financial growth. Kevin and Sue knew that Patrick’s integrity and personal care would always be in their best interests.

Sue worked for many years as a graphic designer/art director in the advertising and printing business. She still has a passion for the arts and has volunteered at the Detroit Institute of Arts for many years. Kevin works in the automotive supply industry. He is responsible for product quality, worker health and safety, and the environmental aspects of the business. In his free time, Kevin loves all things sports, especially Michigan State football, basketball, and hockey. WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2024? The Deacons enjoy traveling and hope to explore many new places in the coming years. This summer, they are going to London, England, and Edinburgh, Scotland, where they will meet up with some of Sue’s relatives. They also enjoy going to concerts and have tickets to several shows this year. They’re trying to see as many bands as they can before they run out of farewell tours! Most importantly, they look forward to spending time together with their family, especially their two grandsons, Jack and George.

Off the Radar HIDDEN GEM VACATION DESTINATIONS Are you tired of visiting hyped-up vacation destinations or getting lost in a big city or crowded national park? If so, consider a holiday at a less congested, more laid-back locale. These hidden gems offer beautiful views and exciting excursions — all without the headaches that come with vacationing to big-name destinations!
CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK Make your way to Oregon and dive into the deepest lake in the country! Crater Lake National Park’s namesake was formed when a volcanic eruption triggered a mountain to come apart in spectacular fashion. You can stay at plenty of campsites and find excellent fishing in the lake’s pristine and seemingly bottomless water. If you are a fan of hiking, fishing, or breathtaking views, then Crater Lake is for you.
PINNACLES NATIONAL PARK Make an excursion to Pinnacles in California to enjoy the splendor of nature without having to share space with millions of tourists. With over 30 miles of hiking trails crisscrossing rocky hills and river-strewn caverns, you’ll find plenty of opportunities for memorable adventure. Despite its wondrous views, Pinnacles was named the 15th least- visited national park in 2023, with just over 340,000 annual visitors.
CRATER OF DIAMONDS STATE PARK If you have ever felt envious of the
prospectors who made their riches during the California Gold Rush, then pay a visit to Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, where you can discover your own hidden gems! You can discover rare rocks and minerals in a massive field birthed by volcanic
activity, including diamonds, amethysts, garnets, and quartz. The best part? Anything you find, you can keep! Seekers have found more than 35,000 diamonds at the park since it opened in 1972, and with some luck, you could add a few more to that tally!
