Selling: 59 Angus, Hereford & Composite F1 Bulls 59 Replacement Quality & Fancy F1 Yearling Heifers
18th Annual Production Sale
W elcome to our 18th Annual production sale. A huge factor for success in any operation are the herd bulls that are used. Easy fleshing, efficient cattle are crucial to maximize your profit. Take those traits and combine them with fertility and docility and you’ve got the com- plete package. That’s why we believe we’ve got just the type of bull to fit into your program! This year we were able to utilize Igenity Beef Profiles for our commercial bulls. We had used HD50K in the past for the Angus bulls but haven’t for a couple years. I did a little research and found we were able to get a profile on the bulls so we tried it. After scanning the data and the definitions of each trait I really appreciate the simplicity of the scores and find that they coincide pretty closely with what we al- ready know (if they should be calving ease or a carcass bull, etc). I personally like that extra backing when making breeding choices. I invite you to also read through the definitions and utilize the scores in your purchasing decisions. Of course, the registered Angus bulls all have genomically enhanced EPDs via AngusGS and are able to be transferred to your membership if you so choose. For the eleventh year in a row we will again be offering the entire group of 2025 born black baldy yearling heifers. These ladies have been bangs vaccinated and are ready to go in any direction for you. They will be auctioned off as a whole set or can be gate split in groups of ten or more. We castrate everything in the spring except the AI sired bull calves and a handful of natural service sired calves out of our best cows. We then go through round two of cuts after weaning where we generally band about a third of those calves to get down to what we are offering now. We operate a registered Angus and Hereford herd as well as our commercial herd. Although the majority of these bulls are commer- cial, they are raised and handled just like the registered bulls. All the data is collected and kept track of. We parentage all of our replacement heifers to make sure they are who we think they are and we know generations of pedigrees because of it. We’ve got a great selection of per- formance bulls as well as calving ease bulls. Take the time to look at and compare each one. The bulls have never had creep feed and they’ve been on a high roughage growing ration since weaning in September. We try to put focus towards maternal pedigrees as well as performance and make sure our mother cows are working for us. Disposition is a key trait we strive for. None of the bulls get worked up or uptight when we handle them. Docility is a HUGE factor in our operation! The sale will be conducted in an auction style manner while we play a video of each lot on TVs. We strongly urge you to thoroughly evaluate each of the bulls before the sale starts. We will have online bidding available via DVAuction. Just follow the instructions we have printed in this sale book to bid from home at www.dvauction.com . If you have any other questions either before or during the sale, please feel free to ask. This offering is current on all vaccinations and have been poured routinely. The bulls will be semen tested before the sale to ensure fertility and the heifers will be palpated to confirm breedablility. A supplement sheet will be provided on sale day including scan data, scrotal mea- surements, any registration updates and heifer data. We believe that each of these bulls will add value and pounds to any cow herd. They’re backed by some of the best genetics in the Angus and Hereford breeds!! Please feel free to view this excellent offering of bulls and females at the ranch anytime and be sure to stop in early on sale day. The critters will be on display and a complimentary lunch and beverages will be available before and after the auction takes place. We look forward to seeing you and appreciate your interest in our program!

Igenity® Beef: Definitions of Traits Reported
Maternal Traits -Birth weight (BW): Variation in birth weight a heifer or bull will pass along to its offspring. A higher score indicates greater genetic potential for heavier birth weight. A lower score indicates lighter birth weight. - Calving ease direct (CED): Percentage of unassisted births, indicating greater probability a calf will be born unassisted out of a first-calf heifer. Genetic factors such as birth weight and shape of the calf are included in calving ease direct. A higher value is greater calving ease. -Calving ease maternal (CEM): The probability a first-calf heifer will calve unassisted. Calving ease maternal includes all genetic factors that impact a heifer’s ability to calve unassisted, such as pelvic area and her genetic contribution to birth weight. A higher value is greater calving ease. -Stayability (STAY): The chance a heifer will remain in the herd as a productive cow until at least six years of age. A higher value is desired. Heifer pregnancy rate (HPR): A heifer’s potential to conceive during breeding season, relative to other heifers. A higher value is desired. -Docility (DOC): The animal’s genetic potential to be calm or have calm offspring. Higher scores indicate a higher probabiltiy of progeny with acceptable disposition. -Milk (M): Expressed as pounds of calf weaning weight affected by the milk production of a calf’s dam. This is not a prediction of actual pounds of milk produced. Performance Traits -Residual feed intake (RFI): This is an indicator of feed efficiency. It is the difference in animals’ daily consumption of feed to achieve the same level of daily gain. Lower residual feed intake indicates greater feed efficiency. -Average daily gain (ADG): Based on pounds of gain per day. The Igenity® score for average daily gain identifies an animal’s genetic potential for post- weaning growth. -Scrotal circumference (SC): Difference in scrotal size as an indication of fertility in replacement females. A higher score equates to higher scrotal size. -Weaning weight (WW): Pounds at age of 205 days. -Yearling weight (YW): Pounds at age of 365 days. Carcass Traits -Tenderness (TEND): Animals’ genetic potential for carcass tenderness as measured by the Warner-Bratzler Shear Force test. A higher score indicates greater tenderness. -USDA marbling (MARB): Marbling score indicates the degree of marbling in the rib eye at the twelfth rib expressed in USDA marbling units. -Ribeye area (REA): Estimates muscling in a beef carcass and is measured in square inches of the ribeye muscle at the twelfth rib. -Fat thickness (FAT): Scored as depth of fat in inches over the ribeye muscle at the twelfth rib. Higher fat thickness scores equate to lower lean yield. -Hot carcass weight (HCW): Hot carcass weight is the hot or unchilled weight of the carcass after slaughter and the removal of the head, hide, intestinal tract, and internal organs. Igenity® Beef Results Key How to Interpret Your Igenity Beef Results Igenity® profiles of replacement heifers and non-registered bulls help you evaluate their genetic potential for maternal, performance, and carcass traits. This makes it easy to review and focus on those making the biggest impact. Igenity reports on 17 traits to help you select, manage, and market your cattle. Using Igenity profiles can help you know more about the genetic potential of young breeding stock before you have made significant investments in their development. Maternal Traits Drive Production: Birth weight, calving ease direct, calving ease maternal, stayability, heifer pregnancy, docility, and milk Calving difficulties, cows that don’t breed back, heifers with poor conception, cattle with poor dispositions, and cows that milk too much, or not enough, all hurt your bottom line. Evaluating maternal traits in your breeding stock helps you develop a cow-herd that will be more productive for years to come. Performance Traits Drive Efficiency: Residual feed intake, average daily gain, weaning weight, yearling weight, and scrotal circumference Heifers and cows that don’t require extra feed to maintain body condition are more efficient cows. By selecting females with lower residual feed intake and higher average daily gain, you will improve efficiency of maintenance and gain in your herd. Selection pressure on these traits can help improve feed efficiency in future calf crops, too. For example, pens of feeder calves can be grouped with other animals of similar potential, and be fed or marketed based on that potential. This leads to more uniform and efficient gain in the finishing phase. Carcass Traits Drive Value: Tenderness, marbling, ribeye area, fat thickness, and hot carcass weight Predicting carcass merit is important whether you are raising feeder calves for sale at weaning, retaining calves to finish, and/or selling on quality grids. Igenity allows you to select breeding stock that produce high-quality carcasses among their progeny. Plus, sorting high-quality cattle from lower-potential cattle helps you manage and market each group more appropriately.

EPD & $Value Definitions
Calving Ease Direct (CED) , is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers. Birth Weight EPD (BW) , expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Weaning Weight EPD (WW) , expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Yearling Weight EPD (YW) , expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Scrotal Circumference EPD (SC) , expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires. Calving Ease Maternal (CEM) , is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf daughters. It predicts the average ease with which a sire’s daughters will calve as first-calf heifers when compared to daughters of other sires. Maternal Milk EPD (Milk) , is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability. Docility (Doc) EPD , is expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility. It predicts the average difference of progeny from a sire in comparison with another sire’s calves. In herds where temperament problems are not an issue, this expected difference would not be realized. Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) , an index, expressed in dollars per head, predicts profitability differences from conception to weaning with the underlying breeding objective assuming that individuals retain their own replacement females within herd and sell the rest of the cull female and all male progeny as feeder calves. The model assumes commercial producers will replace 25% of their breeding females in the first generation and 20% of their breeding females in each subsequent generation. Traits included are as follows: calving ease direct, calving ease maternal, weaning weight, milk, heifer pregnancy, teat size, udder suspension, functional longevity, docility, mature cow weight, claw set and foot angle. Weaned Calf Value ($W) , an index, expressed in dollars per head, to predict profitability differences in progeny due to genetics from birth to weaning. The underlying objective being producers will retain 20% of the female progeny as replacements and sell the rest of the cull females and their male counterparts as feeder calves. Traits included are as follows (in no particular order): birth weight, weaning weight, milk, and mature cow weight. Beef Value ($B) , a terminal index, expressed in dollars per carcass, to predict profitability differences in progeny due to genetics for postweaning and carcass traits. This terminal index assumes commercial producers wean all male and female progeny, retain ownership of these animals through the feedlot phase and market these animals on a carcass grid. Traits included in the index are as follows: yearling weight, dry-matter intake, marbling, carcass weight, ribeye area and fat. Combined Value ($C) , an index, expressed in dollars per head, which includes all traits that make up both Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) and Beef Value ($B) with the objective that commercial producers will replace 20% of their breeding females per year with replacement heifers retained within their own herd. The remaining cull heifer and steer progeny are then assumed to be sent to the feedlot where the producers retain ownership of those cattle and sell them on a quality-based carcass merit grid. Expected progeny differences directly influencing a combined index: calving ease direct, calving ease maternal, weaning weight, yearling weight, maternal milk, heifer pregnancy, teat size, udder suspension, functional longevity, docility, mature cow weight, foot angle, claw set, dry matter intake, marbling, carcass weight, ribeye area, and fat thickness.

Starting out the sale with a dandy of a bull. This is our first calf crop out of Top Gun and there hasn’t been one born that we don’t like. This will be Fancy’s fourth bull calf and all have been sale highlights. She’s a cow that Royce showed as a calf and bred and she’s really done us well. In the upper third of the breed for several EPDs. Rec- ommended for cows and to make extra soggy, growing calves!

Don’t let his WW disappoint you, his dam injured her back leg shortly after calving and it reflected greatly on her calf. HOWEVER, since weaning this bull has been gaining 4.4 pounds per day! Great pedigree and clearly doing the work himself since weaning. Top 10% for WW, ADG, YW & HCW. Top 30% for Marbling, REA & HPR. Recommended for cows.
Really neat made Hollywood son. Easy moving and easy keeping. Out of a super nice Effective dam that had a looker in 2023’s sale. No Limits was in the top 10% for ADG. The top 20% for YW and the top 30% for CEM, HPR, WW, SC, Marb & HCW. Recommended for cows.

Purchased the sire of these next two bulls from Koupal’s in 2023 and use him as one of the natural service sires for the “A Team” AI cows. Smooth made and out of a pretty Duke daughter. Ranks in the top 3% for Milk and the top 4% for $W (weaned calf value). Recom- mended for cows.
Should be a big time feeder calf maker here. He was in the top 1% for ADG. The top 10% for YW & Marb. The top 20% for WW and the top 30% for HPR, SC & HCW. Recommended for cows. (I had already lotted the bulls and somehow forgot this one so that’s why he is Lot 17x--not to be confused with Lot 17--->>>)

Very comparable to lot 17 in both phenotype and numbers. Deep made guy that should raise some good ones. Also in the top of the breed for milk and 25% for $W. Recommended for cows.

These Copycat sons need no introduction. We’ve offered several bulls over the past 4 years out of him and they’ve been well received. Dam is a great producer that is out of Lot 10’s mom, 8105. Recom- mended for cows.

Really nice to look at cow bull that should sire some easy keepers. He’ll add a little frame and dimension. Recommended for cows.
