Although this is a challenging time for the institution, we are eager to rebuild relationships between faculty and administration to foster genuine collaboration and shared governance. We hope to provide quarterly updates to the Board about Faculty Senate initiatives and the myriad ways faculty are engaged in supporting student success and institutional change. Over the last quarter, Faculty Senate committees have engaged in important work: - The Bylaws and Faculty Code Committee proposed revisions to the Distinguished Faculty Award processes to improve clarity. They also prepared a report assessing the alignment of the Faculty Code and the 2025 shared governance document (attached). - As of February 6, the Curriculum Committee has reviewed approximately 170 curriculum proposals and developed language for Hyflex teaching modality that they sent to the full Faculty Senate for approval. - The Evaluation and Assessment Committee prepared annual assessment surveys for the Faculty Senate, the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, and administrators. They will also be developing course evaluations for the new hyflex modality. - The Academic Affairs Committee (AAC) has worked on revisions to attendance policies to better support student athletes as well as other student groups with commitments outside of class (e.g., music, theater, mock trial, etc.). The AAC has also reviewed the three-year degree Catalyst team proposal and the proposed interim policy on Regular and Substantive (RSI) in online courses and provided extensive feedback on both. - Besides reviewing general education course proposals, the General Education Committee has been collaborating closely with the General Education Catalyst Team to ensure CWU’s general education program meets the needs of both students and society going forward. - The Faculty Senate Executive Committee also tasked an ad hoc workgroup to re- envision and re-establish the Budget and Planning Committee to enhance faculty- administration budget communication and increase faculty involvement in university budget decisions. The Executive Committee also plans to collaborate closely with the provost to implement policy language to guide the development and offering of three -year degree programs. Representatives from the AAC and the FSEC have worked closely with the provost’s office to reorganize academic policy, so it is easier for students, staff, and faculty to navigate and use. The draft of this proposed reorganization will be reviewed by both the AAC and FSEC this month, and we will continue to work closely with the provost on the next steps. We
