The leadership team of the Finance & Administration division wishes to express its strong confidence in President Wohlpart’s leadership of Central Washington University. Over the past five years, the environment has changed dramatically for the higher education industry and CWU, including changing perspectives on the value of a four- year degree, wavering state and federal support , and increasing compliance requirements , just to list a few examples . We recognize that to be a thriving institution in the future, we must adapt and evolve , while at the same time protect the essential elements of what has made CWU a successful institution. We believe that under President Wohlpart’s leadership, we are on the right path towards our vision of becoming a model learning community of access and opportunity, evidenced in part by the following attributes and behaviors: • Protecting academic programs despite historic enrollment declines as essential to our success while our peers are going through program reductions . • Embracing Enterprise Risk Management, p olicy reform and institutional governance practices, including “tone at the top .” • Establishing a Title IX and compliance function to manage institutional risk and secure state funding to support it. • Thoughtfully creating an improved shared governance document which is inclusive and transparent , while providing clear guidance on authority and expertise. • Modelling institutional citizenship – being on campus, going to lectures, performances, meeting faculty, staff and students in an extraordinary way. • Prioritizing meaningful Tribal relationships and creating a Tribal Liaison • Modelling a deep commitment to advancing sustainability initiatives on campus and improving the economic, social, and environmental well-being of the campus and broader community. • Holding senior leaders accountable to performance standards
For these reasons and many more, the Finance & Administration leadership team fully supports the leadership of President Wohlpart.
