Refrigerant Additives: I n todays world of highly marketed items, sometimes its hard to know what you are purchasing. Often times what you don’t know can hurt Many of the more marketed refrigerants are not pure refrigerant. They may contain things like, dye, oil, and sealant. What most people don’t realize is that some additives may harm your a/c system. There are different types of oil, as well as weights. Installing the incorrect oil can cause damage to your a/c compressor. Sealants are another concern. The way most sealants work is they look for moisture in the system. Once it reaches an area that contains moisture, it begins to expand and fill the area. The issue is that sealants can plug condensers, evaporators, driers, as well as expansion valves or orifice tubes. Most manufacturers do not recognize refrigerant sealants as a valid repair. In many cases sealants can actually void the manufactures HVAC warranty. you, or in the case of refrigerant additives, hurt your a/c system.
