DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN GIVE AND GAIN?

one knows you should not give a little baby tea, but she didn’t have any thing else to give. All day long she waited for Laxmibai to return, but she never came back. That evening before it was dark, she took the baby and went to some neighbors who had a cow and begged some milk. They gave her a little, but the baby could not drink it from the spoon. Finally Mrs. Powar dipped her finger in the milk and then let the baby suck the finger. The baby cried most of the night and Mrs. Powar could not sleep. Where in the world had Laxmi bai gone? Day after day she went to the neighbors to beg milk, until one day they said, “We cannot keep on giving you milk like this. We also are poor. If you do not have money to pay for the milk, then you will have to beg it from someone else.” Tears filled Mrs. Powar’s eyes. “Where can I go? From whom can I beg? I have no money to buy it, for milk is expensive. Laxmibai went away and left her baby and has never come back. The baby cries all the time, and I am afraid it will die.” The neighbor looked at the baby which now had become very weak and thin. “Yes, it will die soon. It is already sick. Why don’t you take it to Mukti Mission? They take care of little babies there and have many big cows to provide milk for them.” “Where is this Mission?” Mrs. Po war asked, a ray of hope coming into her heart. The neighbor told her just how to get there, and, although it was a long, long walk, Mrs. Powar started out that very day. Just before she arrived at the Mission gate, she saw the big herd of beautiful cows that supply milk for the babies. “ Their milk"must be very good,” she thought, “ and this must be a good place, if the cows are so healthy.” As Mrs. Powar turned the baby over to the nurse at the Mission, a quiet peace filled her heart. How kind the people were there, even though she was a widow. It must be true, she thought, that the Lord Jesus of whom they told her was really the Saviour. If Laxmibai’s brothers had known Him, they would also have been kind instead of cruel. She de cided that if Laxmibai ever came back, she would tell her of the Lord Jesus of whom she had heard that day. She was happy, too, about the name the Mission people had given the baby. When they heard the sad story and that the baby had no name, they said, “ Because all her past has been darkness, let us give her a name of light. Let us call her ‘Rashmi,’ which means ‘Sunbeam’.” As Mrs. Powar walked back down to the road to her village, she felt that truly a ray of light had come to her own heart.

Assume that you bought stocks in recent years at a cost of $1000.00.

By reason of inflation, etc., they are now worth $3000.00.

If the stocks are sold, the profit of $2000.00 (difference between tho above $3000.00 present value and the $1000.00 cest) would be taxed at capital gain rates running up to 2 5 % or $500.00 on this profit.

If the stocks instead are giwn to Biola, a Christian organization, then tho donor's income tax deduction is tho entire current value of tho property, $3000.00, even though his cost was only $1000.00.

The law allows this libenl result in order to encourage contributions. The doner Is excused from paying tax on the above gain of $2000.00 and bis reward is a $3000.00 income tax deduction own though tho property cost him only $1000.00. (The same rule would apply to any property, for example, land, Jewelry, etc. which had increased in value.)
