TASTE Fall 2022

Go ahead and get comfy—we’ve put together a selection of seriously good wines and some cutlery-free snack ideas.

Chardonnay & Popcorn Rich and creamy—a full-throttle Chardonnay may seem formidable when it comes to snack pairing. Fear not, it’s actually quite easy to find a complementary nosh. Roasted nuts are magical with this style of wine, as are smoked cheeses, buckets of breaded chicken, warm cornbread, creamy chicken salad on a croissant, or corn on the cob. However, the simplicity of a bowl of buttered popcorn should never be overlooked— toss in some truffle oil and grated Parmesan and you have a culinary wine and food masterpiece. From California, Bread & Butter is just the brazen Chardonnay you’ll require with its distinct caramel, dried pineapple and clove notes; it demands an equally fulsome snack.

Lambrusco & Pizza Lambrusco is a purple-stained variety from Italy’s northern Emilia-Romagna region with a distinct grapey-floral character. Technically a sparkling wine, Lambrusco falls on the fizzy side of the bubbly spectrum, like Prosecco, and they also come in dry and off-dry versions. With tannic structure, acidity and palate- cleansing bubbles, Lambrusco can easily stand up to classic tomato-based pizzas, salami, sheep’s milk cheeses and figs wrapped in prosciutto drizzled with aged balsamico. With the off-dry versions, pairings of sweet and spicy deep-fried cauliflower or Indian pakoras will shine. Medici Ermete’s dry frothy Concerto Lambrusco is an excellent example of the variety, offering rose petal, pomegranate and maraschino cherry notes.
