FROMTHEDEAN

To the College’s wonderful alumni and friends,

It’s a true pleasure to connect with you. As Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, I take great interest in knowing the many ways you are elevating humanity and how you are making a difference, whether through your professional accomplishments, your service to the community or the new directions you pursue. You reflect the continued value and impact of a liberal arts education. You exemplify what it means to think critically, communicate clearly, solve complex problems and engage meaningfully in a dynamic and ever-changing world. Thank you for carrying the mission of our College with you and for showing what’s possible when curiosity, compassion and creativity lead the way. There is so much to be excited about here in the College. As the new Dean, we have a new strategic plan, new academic programs such as Forensic Studies, Computational Linguistics and Legal Studies. We have launched a new Center for Constitutional Law, which will be a hub for research, civic engagement and education training focused on deepening understanding of constitutional principles and shaping Nevada’s legal and civic future. Not to mention the numerous programs that we hold at the Lake Tahoe campus, from MFAs in creative writing and visual arts, to presenting Writers in the Woods, to hosting a civics education summer program for high school civics teachers. Meanwhile, our alumni community is becoming more connected than ever through new initiatives like our Alumni Spotlight video series and an exciting Italian alumni trip planned for next fall, which I will host. The experience will focus on embodied humanities, deepen your connection to the College’s mission and leadership and highlight a renewed emphasis on Core Humanities as a foundation for global study opportunities. All this momentum is powered by your example and support. Every day, you demonstrate the real-world value of a liberal arts education. You inspire our students, energize our faculty and remind us that our work has meaning far beyond the classroom. Thank you for being a part of this journey. We are proud of you and we look forward to connecting to learn more about how a liberal arts education is an investment for a stronger future.
