As we reflect on another remarkable year at Crooked Tree Arts Center, we are filled with pride and deep gratitude. Thanks to you - our dedicated members, generous donors, and committed partners - we continue to build a thriving, inclusive, and inspiring arts community across Northern Michigan. A NOTE OF GRATITUDE In 2024, your support made it possible for us to present an incredible range of experiences: from dynamic visual art exhibitions and captivating performances to enriching lectures, hands-on classes, and educational tours that sparked creativity in young minds. Over $54,000 in scholarships were distributed to help remove barriers to participation for visual arts and dance instruction, and our School of Ballet students continued to grow in skill and confidence with scholarships to Summer Intensives thanks to your belief in their potential. This coming year marks a major milestone: Crooked Tree Arts Center – Traverse City will celebrate its 10th anniversary. It’s a moment to celebrate not just our growth, but the powerful impact of the arts in our region—made possible by your unwavering support. Because of you, Crooked Tree Arts Center remains a welcoming space where people of all ages can connect, learn, and grow through the arts. Together, we’re ensuring that the arts remain a vibrant and vital part of life in Petoskey, Traverse City, and beyond. CTAC - Traverse City
CTAC - Petoskey
Maryrose Trubiroha For the past three years, Maryrose has shared her time, energy, and heart with Crooked Tree Arts Center, becoming an invaluable part of our CTAC family. From the very beginning as a volunteer with Paint Grand Traverse, her enthusiasm for the arts and her dedication to community were evident. “I love volunteering at CTAC because of the incredible staff and artists. There is a great sense of community where we are treated with love, respect, and kindness. The events are always exciting—being a part of witnessing inspiring art and meeting artists and lovers of art. I’m honored to be a part of the CTAC family.” But her contributions extend far beyond her words. Every week, Maryrose volunteers at our front desk, where she greets visitors, students, and patrons with genuine warmth. She is also a regular at our exhibition openings, pouring wine and gently encouraging guests to support the artists by purchasing their work. This past summer, she even opened her home to host one of our visiting Paint Grand Traverse artists and their partner—offering not only a place to stay, but also thoughtful care and hospitality. That generosity of spirit is who Maryrose is at her core. Whether she has known you for three years or three hours, she shows up with kindness, sincerity, and a true desire to make others feel welcomed and supported. She embodies what it means to be a volunteer—selfless, compassionate, and community-minded. We are deeply grateful for all she brings to CTAC and to Traverse City, and we couldn’t be happier to honor Maryrose as the 2025 Traverse City Volunteer of the Year.
Kathleen A. Davis Kathleen’s journey with Crooked Tree Arts Center began when former CTAC president Megan DeWindt and former board president Heidi Geiger met with her in person to learn about her values and interests. Their genuine effort to align her involvement with what mattered most left a lasting impression, eventually inspiring Kathleen to become deeply engaged with CTAC as a donor, a volunteer, and board member on the executive committee. In 2021, Kathleen joined the Dart for Art committee, where her organizational skills and “get-it-done” reputation quickly stood out. Within a year, she was invited to co-chair the event and soon after to join the CTAC Board of Directors, a role she embraced with her signature energy and commitment. “Volunteering truly provides endless opportunities—to gain experience, to grow, to develop friendships, and to simply enjoy what life puts in front of us.” Kathleen’s love for CTAC extends beyond her leadership roles. She delights in shopping locally at CTAC’s sales galleries and attending exhibitions and performances, each a reminder of the richness CTAC brings to the region. “Through my experiences, I have witnessed firsthand how CTAC creates opportunities for artists, art lovers, and the broader community to come together and celebrate creativity. I am grateful for the memories, friendships, and artistic experiences CTAC has provided and look forward to many more years of support and engagement” Kathleen’s journey reflects not only her personal generosity and dedication but also the spirit of volunteerism that sustains CTAC. In honoring Kathleen as Petoskey Volunteer of the Year, CTAC celebrates her countless contributions and the example she sets for others to get involved, give back, and embrace the joy of community.
