C A R B ONU S LET MELALEUCA PAY FOR YOUR CAR

FINDING FREEDOM WITH MOBILITY

Before enrolling with Melaleuca, Senior Director Ruth Ann Gingerich had already worked hard to break through cultural barriers in her Amish community to live independently in her own home. But she wanted more. She was tired of relying on expensive taxi services or the generosity of friends to get where she needed to go. She was tired of getting by with her small kick scooter and the cart of Melaleuca materials she had rigged to pull behind it in order to get to Melaleuca Overviews miles away. And she was tired of scooting a mile and a half to borrow a horse and buggy from her mom to go grocery shopping. That’s why advancing to Senior Director and earning the Car Bonus means so much to Ruth Ann. “Without my own transportation, going anywhere was so expensive,” she says. “It was one of the reasons I held back on traveling when it wasn’t a necessity. I was always the person who never went on vacations or did stuff with friends because I had other priorities with my limited income, like buying my house.” Once Ruth Ann advanced to Senior Director, she got special permission to use her bonus to buy a horse and buggy. “I will never forget the days of scootering back and forth,” she says. “I don’t get exercise like I used to, but it’s so nice to just walk out to my barn and hitch up my horse, Buddy, to get groceries. It was such a chore before to bundle up and scoot over to my mom’s house to use her horse and buggy. A grocery trip could be a six-hour endeavor! Now it takes me less than half that time. “I fell in love with Buddy the moment I met him. He loves racing other horses and buggies—and I love it even more!

My mom is not that excited to see me fly past her house with Buddy, but I’m excited to have my own freedom.” With the help of Melaleuca, Senior Director 3 Jill Vinecourt (her enroller), and her newfound freedom, Ruth Ann is accomplishing so much. In addition to her job cleaning homes and businesses, supplemental income from Melaleuca has helped her build a barn, fence a pasture on her property, and earn the extra funds to replace her failing septic system. Recently, she took her mom on a trip to Arizona by train to visit her aging uncle. Next, she hopes to advance to Executive Director by the end of 2021 and help her sister advance to Senior Director. “I’ve had a lot of naysayers and people not believing in me,” Ruth Ann says. “But I’m determined. Jill and I are planning on roaming the earth next year to help as many people as we can!”
