CULTURE Instrumental Music

ORCHESTRA The year began with the focus on getting the various orchestra sections playing together, and working towards the Orchestra Extravaganza with St Margaret’s College and Rangi Ruru Girls’ School at the end of Term 1. A number of students have played in national orchestras, namely the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Symphony Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra National Youth Orchestra. ROCK BANDS Playing in Rock bands still remains as popular as ever and College entered a number of bands in the Smokefree Rockquest Competition. By Tomorrow (Will Morris, Rheon Salt, Johnny Bullen, Jasper Johnson and Harry Dufton) was finalist and was awarded 3rd place, and Jeremy Kinley won the Musicianship Award.

BIG BAND AND JAZZ COMBO The Big Band and the Jazz Combo entered the Southern Jam Youth Jazz Festival. The bands were awarded Gold. Rory Doull (guitar) and William Sudell (trombone) were selected to be part of the All Stars Band, and Rory was awarded the

SEDLEY WELLS SOLO MUSIC COMPETITION The Sedley Wells Solo Music Competition was held on Tuesday 2 November in the Assembly Hall. This competition is open to any student at College who plays a musical instrument or sings solo. Due to the restrictions the competition was held without an audience, being live-streamed, enabling us to share this event remotely with family and friends. This year the adjudicators were Chrissie Badger and April Chapman from Medbury School. 2021 RESULTS Senior Instrumental
