SENIOR A BASKETBALL MiC: Ben Sheat Coach: Ben Sheat Team: Josh Book (captain), Hunter Adam, Nic Book, Jordan Braithwaite, Jacob Clements, Ed Davidson, Tom Harrison, Truman Heath, Liam Jack, Jeremy Kinley, Matthew Lewis, Cam McCarthy, Rob McClean, Vili Pale, Hamish Patterson The 2021 season, unfortunately, replicated the 2020 season off the court, with the pandemic causing an overall limited season. In spite of this, the team embraced the challenges and produced impressive performances. The squad started the season with a pre-season trip to Methven. This set the tone for the season and involved lots of team building and activities. Jet boating on the Rakaia river was a definite highlight. We finished the

training camp with a game against Ashburton College, our boys winning 104-52. We finished pre-season with strong performances against Waitaki Boys’ High School and Middleton Grange. We beat Middleton Grange 108- 81 which was the largest ever win against the school. After winning the Thomson Trophy in 2020, the team was definitely focused on retaining that trophy. The boys hit the ground running against newcomers Rolleston College, winning 129-75 and never looked back. In the 10-game round robin, the closest an opponent got was 16 points, showing the dominance throughout and made even more impressive that the team played every game away, apart from against Ashburton College. Another bump in the road happened with another level 4 lockdown

right before semi-finals. Once out, the team had to spend two weeks preparing to play again, while coping with a challenging situation and realising tournaments had been lost. However, as usual the team embraced this challenge and in the semi-finals the team put on one of their most impressive performances of the season dismantling a good Cashmere High School side, 106- 66. This meant the team had made back-to-back finals for the first time in College history. In a repeat of the previous year’s final, the St Andrew’s College team were always going to be ready after going down last year, and jumped out to an early lead. The Senior A team wasn’t used to playing from behind. However, they kept their cool and pushed on to grab the lead back and hold it. They took the win 92-88 and became the first Christ’s College team
