with Daniel Metherell picking up five wickets in an innings. Term 4 kicked off in the spring holidays with a brief tour to Blenheim followed by a 30-over game against Otago Boys’ High School (played at The Willows) to make up for the Covid-19-related cancellation of the two-day match in Term 1. The term proved to be momentous, with the team securing a 100% record in the local competition, including a fine century by Sam Idiens and a five- wicket haul by Rob McClean. The only blot on the term was the loss to St Andrew’s College in the Gillette Cup final at Hagley Oval. There was also a new fixture – against an Old Boys XI – played at the Valley of Peace ground, with a team of predominantly Year 13s losing to a particularly strong Old Boys team.

In Term 1, two-day games were played, along with the T20 competition, while in Term 4, all fixtures were one-day matches. New captain Sam Idiens led the team into the traditional curtain- raiser against The Willows, before the team headed to King’s College in Auckland. College was unable to play the usual trans-Tasman competition, but instead played King’s twice and Takapuna Grammar School. The team performed well throughout Term 1, winning every T20 match – other than the final against Christchurch Boys’ High School (CBHS) – and then remaining unbeaten in the two-day competition again until the final game when College lost in the final hour, again against CBHS. Centuries were scored by Caleb Manson and Nick Gibb,
Overall, the season showed highlights aplenty, with three
centuries and no less than 25 other scores of 50 or more shared among the team and two five-wicket hauls and five other occasions when a bowler took four wickets. Players making their debut Josh Beaglehole, Tom Clarke, Tom Harrison, Rob McClean, Will Patchett, George Ryan, Tim Seeto, Harry Sharr
