for 5th and 6th. In the end, College made the final after a two-wicket victory in a small run chase. In the final, College possibly played its best game of the term to push St Andrew’s College (clearly the best Saturday team) right down to the final overs. Finn McCormack- Young again batted well (49) with good support from Jackson Garry. Defending 172, College chipped out wickets – with Finn McCormack- Young and Tom Hodges leading the way – while the other bowlers were parsimonious. A Tom Hodges run out almost won the game, but, in the end, the four-wicket loss was a sign of a close and tense game. Earlier excellent bowling performances – especially from the spin trio of Jackson Garry, Tom Hodges and Ben Laing – were critical in the victory in the derby match against the College White XI, while Frankie Meates’ individual effort of 91no, four wickets and two catches almost single-handedly won the game against Christchurch Boys’ High School. Again, Finn McCormack-Young seemed to be the glue in our batting and his desire to hit the ball hard always gave impetus to our innings. Lucas Minehan was a significant improver, proving very consistent at the crease. He scored two half centuries while others to raise the bat were Finn McCormack-
Young, Tom Hodges, Ben Laing, and Frankie Meates. Again, our bowlers shared the wickets without one player really dominating. Josh Durant was a big improver with the ball, while Oscar Compton-Moen was a great contributor in building bowling pressure. Jackson Garry was the top wicket taker with nine, although Oscar Compton-Moen and Frankie Meates took eight and Tom Hodges and Ben Laing took seven. Bede Hamilton was a great team man who always gave his best effort. Much of the term may well be remembered for the number of run outs conceded, with the same partnerships accounting for them all. The College Colts White side was a pleasure to be involved with in 2021, with the team gelling quickly and obviously enjoying their cricket. In the two-day format in Term 1, the team won all its matches decisively. A strong batting unit was complemented by a great mix of pace and spin bowling. The top order set an excellent platform throughout the season, with centuries to Jack Baker-Sherman and Felix Huston, and Jack, Felix, Lucas Kelly, Hunter Shore, Benji Nation and Gus Eglinton all scoring 50s. Hunter Shore (21 wickets, including three five-wicket bags) and Gus Eglinton (16 wickets) were the leading wicket-takers, with Benji Nation doing a sensational job behind the stumps. In contrast, the team got off to a rocky start in Term 4, with a rusty batting performance resulting in defeat to the CC Colts Black side. Cobwebs were then well and truly shaken off and the team lost only one further match in the one-day competition. Again, the batsmen performed extremely well, with 50s to Jack Baker-Sherman (who amassed four in total over the term), Felix Huston, Gus Eglinton and Lucas Kelly. Will Ockwell and Hunter Shore were the pick of the bowlers, taking 14 wickets each – including a five- wicket bag for Will. Unfortunately,
