Taylor and Jake Leck, bowled on 49 and 45, respectively. The fielding support was superb, with individual athletic talent such as Hendrix’s memorable single-handed catch at slips. The Mavericks were quick to adopt an exuberant ‘dogpile’ celebration with each success. However, an early season low came in a humbling loss to a younger College T20 team, the Bulls. The Mavs regained some mana in the parting game, smashing more fours than singles to post 230 runs against the College Rams. Term 4 started with a refreshing new look for the Mavericks – five Year 12 cricketers from other College teams replacing the rugby boys, and more Year 10 boys – Will Judd, Thornton Reid, and Charlie Blackburn – joining

seasoned Mavs Murphy and Jake to cement the youngsters in a team competing as seniors. In game one, the new Mavs faced a large St Bede’s College crew on their home turf. Will Churcher and George van Leeuwen partnered for 80 before being retired. With only seven Mavs fielders, Thornton Reid took a timely wicket and George Mounce bowled a cup smasher, but, alas, these heroics were in vain. With three balls to come, St Bede’s grabbed the win. In game two against the old Rams, the Mavs emptied Richards House to sport three extra players – albeit novice cricketers – on the bench. The nail-biter concluded with the Rams holding the Mavs run-less off the last three balls to leave the match tied 80–80.

The game three and four games were played against CBHS teams, with a win and a loss, and the highlight being the fantastic substitute support from Years 10–11 Richards boys, who made these matches possible. Congratulations on yet another Mavs’ season of getting boys out to play cricket for fun. Victor Sue-Tang Manager & Coach
