The boys all ran well, with personal bests and several competing at this level for the first time.
HARRIERS While disrupted by Covid-19, it was a positive season for the boys who joined the College team for winter interclub – with personal bests set. Others competed for College in the regional and national secondary school competitions, with several good results as the boys navigated a mix of muddy and dry courses. Interclub and season highlights College harrier athletes again joined the Papanui Toc H club, providing the opportunity to contest team events. The boys competed in several races, including the Rawhiti Cross-Country Races, Holloway Cross-Country Races, Lionel Fox Memorial Relay, Athletics Canterbury Road Race Championships and Lakeside Relay.
CANTERBURY SECONDARY SCHOOLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY Held at the former Ascot Golf Course behind QEII on Thursday 3 June, the number of College competitors was low because of a time clash with the Christchurch Boys’ High School rugby game. Conditions were excellent and the course demanding, with most College runners happy with their results. However, Matty Hickman had a bad injury during the race, hampering his performance. Repair work in Hagley Park meant the annual event was postponed to mid-September. However, a Covid-19 Alert Level lockdown eventually caused a cancellation. A voluntary event was held in Hagley Park on 4 November, giving boys the chance to compete.
