riders, including George Rookes, who had made the transition from mountain-biking to road cycling look like a walk in the park, and Ben Crawford, who saw himself (with good reason) as a future King Of The Mountains. Alas, Alert Level 4 lockdown once again scuppered the tour, leaving the boys to scrap it out with the rest of the country in a last-minute ‘Virtual Tour’ conducted via Zwift, in living rooms and garages all over New Zealand. Not willing to get off his bike even in lockdown, George Rookes placed 4th in the General Classification and hill- climbing competition for U17. Overall, the season was a success, and the team is in an excellent position to kick on next year, when the boys can expect to be even more competitive in a hopefully less disrupted season.
