This year, he was captain and led by example with his performance both on and off the field, as the team navigated challenging times earlier in the season. He has been an essential member of the team’s central midfield, providing a key link in defence with the attack and often taking control of the opposition’s better players. Archie was awarded Colours in hockey in 2020 and 2021. Hamish Newstead has been a member of the 1st XI hockey team
for three years, including one Rankin Cup, one South Island Tournament and 59 matches. Hamish is an outstanding goalie whose quick feet and reflexes have ensured crucial – and match-winning – saves throughout the season, greatly contributing to the team’s success. He has been a valuable member of the team, with his enthusiasm and spirit enabling the team’s positive culture and success. He was also a member of the Canterbury U18 team who finished runner-up at the national tournament in July. Hamish was awarded Colours in hockey in 2020 and 2021. Tom Clarke has been a member of the 1st XI for four years, including one Rankin Cup, one South Island Tournament and 59 matches. Despite injury earlier in the season disputing his appearances, Tom was a key member of the defensive structure and his return boosted the team’s performance. His composure always gave the players confidence and he could be relied on to make crucial tackles or begin from the back to set up attacking opportunities. Tom was awarded Colours in hockey in 2021.
